Hi All, Looking at Jacks cabin again, it looked thin on detail. Most of my build consists of ideas that I have poached from other build diaries. Finally, here’s something original!!! Through the 3D printing community, I have found a couple of websites that offer free 3D models ready for 3D printing. This is a great resource for various odds & ends. I understand that we have licence to reproduce the models for own use – not commercial use. Just to be on the safe side, below are credits to the website and the modelers and their models that I have used: • Skulls, open book & rat, Witch' s Laboratory Props (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2348977) by drxenocide • Books, bookshelf, rpg terrain (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3060504) by Fede3DWorkshop • Keg, bottles & Tankards, 28mm Bar Back and Accessories (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1477280) by Curufin • Goblets, 28mm Wine Cellar Accessories (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1769657) by Curufin • Jacks compass, Caribean Pirates Compass (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2172220) by teinturman • Thanks also to Mark at Modelart, the owner of our company, who allows me the use of our 3D printing department I basically downloaded the 3D models and imported them into our modelling software (Rhino), scaled them slightly using one of the figures from the kit to judge the size. I primed all the parts with matt black and then proceeded to paint. I’m not mentioning all the colours again, as it was a bit of this, then a bit of that… you get the picture. I have included a pic of my painting setup – that should tell the story. Once all was dry, I glued the bits in. … and the cabin still looks thin on detail. No more though, I’m DONE!!! Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hi All, Did some work on the Quarter deck this weekend. As with all the other decks, I continued the planking using coffee stirrers rather than the deck strips supplied. The only reason for this is to maintain uniformity with the existing decks. As with the other decks, I did not spend too much time on alignment – I think that it adds to the overall aesthetic. I scribed lines on the underside and darkened them with a 2B pencil. I stained the deck with Light Oak wood stain and gave it a light sanding once dry. Once done, I glued it in place. A quick note on the deck colour. I looked over some of the reference pics in the magazine and the decks seem to be black as well. Some of the build diaries have also gone with black decks. In my option, although correct, it’s just too much black – therefore I chose to lighten my decks to provide a little contrast. Kind Regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Good choice of colour for your deck Garth. I think you are correct that too much black paint could be a bit bland. All looking very good. Tony Happy Modelling

Good choice on the decking colour Garth. It would have lost a lot of visual appeal if you'd gone with black. Malc.
