Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. Breaking news; the mesh is now complete on the upper deck guard rails! Applying the mesh was tricky and didn't go down without a fight i must say. Breakages here, wire snapping there. I seriously thought i wouldn't get it done as it really tested my patience. It's been 70 days [10 weeks] since i first made a support for the lower deck and now they are all done! Phew! That concludes this post. I can now move on and there's still plenty to do. Lots of small, odd jobs to complete before I can apply any paint; fitting brass dowels to all the guns and water-tight canisters and then drilling out their corresponding holes on the upper and lower decks, adding trim around the bottom of the conning tower, brackets to be fitted to the lower deck guard rails to accept the radio wires, a cover fitted to the bridge, adding weld line decals and a final sand and tidy. I'm hoping to get all of these jobs done during the next two weeks before I go on a weeks holiday. I would love to get some paint on by then too, but we'll see how it goes. Famous last words. Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. This week was spent finishing off all of those little jobs I've been meaning to do for awhile. I started by adding trim around the bottom of the conning tower, made of 1.0mm x 0.5mm plastic strip. The attached photo shows the trim added to the port forward section. Similar bracket fitted to the port side. I had made and fitted these brackets a few weeks ago, but they became weak and one broke during handling, so two new ones were made using slightly thicker brass sheet, so hopefully these will stay put.
