I've sanded the coat of filler smooth. Got a few spots that need more filler. Hopefully that will finish things off.

After you've sanded and got smooth give it a couple coats of sanding sealer which will help when starting to glue the next layer. It stops the wood being too porous.

Looking better and better each time I look in, looks like you're getting closer to applying the second layer of planking, that's when she'll really start to look like something special..... well done.....Cool Cool

I've finished the filling and sanding process. I must admit this is by far the smoothest planked hull I've built so far.

After spending almost 2 hours cleaning my bench from all the sanding dust, I'm moving on.

Stop by later

Before I started planking I decided to paint the gun ports to avoid spoiling the finished planking.

Sounds like a sensible option. Should give a nice clean finish once you get the next layer of plsnking in place.

Very nice work Mark, amazingly built. I am just about to finish planking myself, and gonna start to sand and file. I just wanted to ask what type of wood filler did you use? and I want to have mine ready but I honestly don't know what would work best with this model. I have normal wood filler but it is not white in colour when drying.

Thank you very much.

Oliver.

Oliver, I actually used spackling compound. Easier to work with.
