Well R2 is up and running perfectly.
At first the patrol mode didn't seem to use the sensors...but tried him again and he avoids things nicely.. even the voice recognition works...arms lightsabre etc.
I got my batteries from 18650.com
There is a link on the page somewhere telling you exactly which batteries you need.
They took 4 hrs each to charge and charge up to 4.2v.

Well pleased with everything.

Finally got mine done. At first he was just a paperweight. Took out the batteries and tried again, and Voila! he works. Sensors are a little sketchy, he avoids the wall but not the furniture, but otherwise very happy.
