I then rummaged around and dug out the 'Laughing Swordfish' decals that came with Issue No:1 of the part-works back in Sept 2014. Almost 5 years ago!! I also began adding a pin wash of heavily thinned matt black to accentuate some details, tie the colours together and tone down the overall finish.

I then added salt streaks using white pastel powder and rust spots using pastels, darkened with smoke coloured powder for heavier rusting in places. All very subtle. I envisaged that the boat was returning from a long patrol with some time on the surface before entering port, giving the Mediterranean sun plenty of time to bring out the corrosion.
