Issue 19:

The Jackstaff and Bow light.
Pack contents: Third section of upper deck, Barbette for the second gun turret, LED cover, Fibre optic cable guide, Fibre optic cable mount, Support for the jackstaff, 2x Plugs, LED cable, Jackstaff, Fibre optic cable, Screws..

Taking the barbette, we align the pins with the recesses in the upper deck section and snap into place. This is then stored for future use.

Turning the forward deck assembly upside down, we next fit the fibre optic guide in place. It is a tight fit, so shouldn't need gluing.

Insert one of the plugs into the top end of the flagstaff, furthest away from the notch. I added a little glue here as it was very loose and easily lost. The second plug is actually a spare (oh how they know me and the carpet monster BigGrin ).

Next we take the fibre optic cable supplied and tie a knot in one end. This cable is then threaded through the notch in the flagstaff so that it comes out the open end. The instructions call for you to cut the cable next, directly above the knot, but i left that till the end, just in case the knot came loose.
Feed the cable through the hole in the bow and push-fit it in place. Next, glue the support so the feet sit in recesses in the upper deck.

With the cable mount facing aft, glue in place on the bow. Fit the fibre optic cable into the recess on the guide and cut off flush with the rear edge of the guide, so when fitting the LED cable the two butt up together. Fit the cable, attach cover and screw in place. Thread the LED cable through the eyelet on the circuit board box and plug into port 1, with the black wire on the right.

Turn on the battery box, and when it has finished the initialization sequence, press button 's3' on the tester box. If the bowstaff light is on, everything is correct. Trim the fibre optic cable at the flagstaff, and 'voila'.

Store any unused parts in a stage labelled bag. This completes Stage 19.

Hi Tony,
Yes, don't seem to have any great delays, except where a bank Holiday is concerned, and that is to be expected.

Hope to see your diary soon ThumpUp

Gray

I am not sure anyone would find a build diary by me on this one of any interest.

You are doing such a top job on yours I think i would just bore people if i did one.

Planning on a couple of paint changes but apart from that it would be very basic.

Good to see yours taking on shape now. I am interested to see what method they use to fix the deck to the hull. Cannot spot any deck screw holes that could be used. But maybe they are there lurking ready to be used.

Keep up the good work on yours

Tony

I think you’d be surprised just how many people would be interested in your build diary as we all build differently and encounter ( and overcome) different problems. Also if you do have any problems it is easy to see in advance. Your choice, but I hope you do. Also it helps others building the same kit ThumpUp

I will give it some thought when i make a start. Feel s bit more confident of doing so now the partsseem to be coming through better.

If anything i guess my take on the painting might be of interest.

Issue 20:

Another section of the Hull.
Pack contents: Lower starboard hull section, Port connector, Starboard connector, Screws.

Taking the hull assembly from issue 15, we attach the lower starboard hull section by sitting it onto the edge of the hull section so that the two screw sockets fit onto the tabs, and screw into place.

Putting the hull on the support stands, place the two connectors into the recesses on the port and starboard side and loosely screw in place. Next, attach the recently completed hull section against the hull assembly, checking for correct fit. Screw into position, and tighten all screws,

Store any unused parts in a stage labelled bag. This completes Stage 20.

Progressing very well.

I like how they have thought out the stand as when the hull gets wider they supply just some different wider supports without having to change the base of the stand.

All good stuff if your into reducing plastics usage.

Issue 21:

Forward section of the Superstructure Deck.
Pack contents: First section of the superstructure decking, Port protective wall, Starboard protection wall, 4x barrel containers, 2x Skylights, Forward superstructure deck, Deck details A, Doors & deck details B,Screws.

The forward superstructure comes packaged with decking, so just screw in place. Glue the port & starboard protective walls in place into the slots on the deck. Glue the two skylights into their respective slots behind the walls. Glue the four barrel containers in place on the deck with the detail surfaces facing each other.

Next, take the detail sprues and glue in place, taking care to position them correctly. These are very fiddly and easily lost. Basically, the open ends should face aft.

Warning: There is an error in the build instructions .
When constructing the details for the superstructure, section 07 shows areas ringed in red where the parts are intended to go. Part 'B2' should sit next to part 'B1', NOT in the area circled in the instructions. Photo '2' below shows how they instruct you to fit the parts, and photo '3' shows where they should be. Just a heads-up guys Huh

Store any unused parts in a stage labelled bag. This completes Stage 21.

Issue 22:

The Forth Section of the Upper Deck.
Pack contents: Fourth section of the upper deck, 2x Barbettes, Screws.

This is another of those very short build issues. Firstly, fit the two barbettes into the openings on the upper deck. Make sure that the square pegs are aligned with the recesses, and push home. These are a very tight fit, so you may need to use tweezers to push the last pin into place.

Take the forth upper deck section and and attach to the upper deck section assembled in Issue 19. Screw in place with the screws provided.

Store any unused parts in a stage labelled bag. This completes Stage 22.
