That really does look very poor so far.
As of yet, I'm not seeing any alterations/improvements on the first issue of this kit.
If anything, it looks worse.

Hope you get it sorted.

Roy.

Customer services update

Well i promised to update on the situation.

I phoned eaglemoss cs this morning and they have agreed to re-ship the complete pack 1 and 2 again.

They also asked me to submit pictures which is not a problem but when i asked if i send these to the address on the packing slip customerservice@eaglemoss.co.uk i was told that is the WRONG address and it should be customercare@eaglemoss.co.uk

I will await the replacements in the hope "the gods will be kind to me" and they arrive without any further problems.

If they are still faulty then its going to have to be a cancellation from me on this one which will be a big disappointment - but sometimes feels thats all i ever have is disappointments.

Tony

Hi Tony,
I also missed the first round of this kit - it's one I really regretted missing. But the quality is really disappointing!!!
These kits are expensive and you would expect better quality.
I am up to issue 92 of the Delorean and am not thrilled by the quality as well. So-much-so that I didn't bother with a build diary.
Good luck with your decision.
Kind regards,
Garth

So I opened one of my Db5s. The hood and the roof were nowhere near as bad as yours Tony. There was no flaking paint.Lots of organge peel on the inside, but the outer surfaces actually were pretty good. There were some dust particles in the clear coat and the clearcoat was not very even , but I think you could carefully sand it and polish it .My fan blade was pretty clean. So maybe it is worth getting a replacement pack before cancelling.its such an iconic care.I really hesitated after my DeLorean experience, but it is such an iconic car I took a chance.

I will open the second one tonight( couldnt remember where I put it so i will have to hunt around a bit) and see hoe that one looks

Pleased to hear your parts are somewhat better.

I have sent my email off with the pictures they requested. Their CS says they will be sent to head office for their attention.

Thay have said they will re-ship the complete first pack but not sure when that will arrive. Just hoping before the second installment gets charged as it gets expensive from then on in.

I really am hoping and preying the next parts will be ok as i really do want to build this one.

Going to be a bit of a waiting game now but as soon asthose new partsarrive i will update again.

Fingers crossed for you as well that your second pack of parts is ok.

Tony

I am really sorry to hear that. One for you and also for the fact what i was hoping might just be my hard luck means my next load of parts might be as bad.

Must admit after the knocks they had last time they messed this partwork up i really thought some effort might have been made this time around.

Will wait and see what eventually arrives but is not sounding hopeful.

Just to keep those interested updated on events just had the following reply back from EAGLEMOSS as a result of the pictures they requested.

I am also going to add EAGLEMOSS to my build diary title as a bit worried any casual viewers might take this as being a deagostini build so bit concerned about that.

Anyhow here is the reply:

Dear Anthony,

Thank you very much for the detailed email.

We are very to hear you are unhappy with the quality of the product.

Please be advised that have forward your email to our superior and she has informed me that she will speak to our head office about your case.
We will keep you updated as soon as we hear from them.

Please also note a request of reshipment was indeed sent to our warehouse on the 25th of July and we hope you receive your new parts son and well.
Thank you in advance for your patience in this matter and our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

Eaglemoss Customer Care

I have also gone in on this, and I feel sorry for you. Having opened my parts packs from the first 2 issues, there are bits in the forward side of the shield, no varnish on centre of the underside of the bonnet, and slight pooling of the varnish on all parts.

However, I am capable of stripping and re-painting the bodywork parts. The problem with this it the logos that are stuck on the bonnet - and I'm sure there will be more like that as things go on.

However, there is good news on this front too. I have been speaking with Mike Lane, who does some of the most amazing mods for the Eaglemoss Delorean. He is already working on replacement metal "Superleggera" logos for the bonnet to be chrome to match the original, and metal DB5 logos.

As someone who has Aspergers, it is only this that will allow me to continue with my build, but I won't be doing anything but collecting for now. Once we have all the bodywork, then I will re-paint the lot at the same time and put up a small build at that time. Once the paintwork has been done, and left long enough to have cured properly, then I will do a build in issue order from the start.

Indeed. Mike is already listing the Lucas screenwash bottle so familiar with the offerings.

While i could certainly spend time stripping and re-painting (and it would be better than eaglemoss have done" my issue is why "why should i". They have extended the number of issues in this second release and no one at eaglemoss can tell me why - so i assume less parts per issue - lets string it out as long as we can.

But the big question is they are promoting ans selling a bolt together kit with no details that say "the paint finish on the parts we sell you will be "B" aweful and you will neef to strip rach body part and paint your own.

If it was advertised as that, one my faith in humanity would be restored because someone was honest, and secondly i would consider the cost, consider the extra work and not bother.

Its one of those issues were if you really really want thisthen little option to pay you money andmake good, but if you are one of the modellers that want to put together a kit to end up with a faultless kit then from ehat i amseeing thisoffering is not going to give you that.

Tony

Tony,

You have hit the nail on the head. For what will be a ~£900 'replica', the bodywork is seriously substandard as this is the first thing people will notice about it.

Given that the original release had plastic moulded wheels, I hope that they learn from the E-type Jaguar and put similar wheels to those in this release - but I'm not holding my breath!

I am only going to continue because

a). I have the skills and equipment to put the paintwork right.

b). Mike Lane is producing the bits required to not only replace the stuff that will get destroyed in that process, but he's upgrading them. This gives me the perfect excuse to strip as I know full well that his details will make the poor paintwork only more noticable.

and

c). It's such an iconic car that I have always wanted one for the centrepiece of my collection. Only would have been beaten into second place by a 1:8 scale Barris Batmobile. Both of which I had the Dinky versions of when I was a boy.

I can't and won't recommend it to anyone, because I truly don't think it's worth the cost to anyone who can't do the re-paint. Even then, it's going to drive me nuts not doing any of the build as we go along because I need all the bodywork together so I can use the same colour - probably a custom mix using Alclad II - at the same time and not getting any shade differences in the colour coat.

However, I may start a thread in the next month detailing the stripping process, cleaning up the parts, and getting the primer down, before I pack them away in their blisters to await the time when I can get them all out and do the colour coat. They will then be given plenty of time and temperature to fully cure before getting a final couple of coats of lacquer to seal it all in before adding the logos back on and doing the assembly.

Sounds like you have a good plan there for your own build and i will be very interested on how you get on.

I am just so disappointed as i know first time around they got a "kicking" for changing manufacturers and people ended up with different paint shades on their final model. Really wouldhave thought they could have put in more effort this time.

I have still heard nothing on the tepkacement parts or my lust of issues they were passing up to HQ.

Have a weeks leave this coming week so may call them. Shame they do not have an online account service like hachette with the bismarck so you can check out shipments and the like.

Its odd really but my enthusiasm is not holding up much hope for this one but if they can get replacement parts out i will give it a try.

Wish you a good start with your own.

Tony
