Stage 107 Contents: Stern Decorations and Stem Decorations.

Retrieve the painted decorations BSB, BSC, BSD, BSE, BSF and BSG from the previous stage. Glue decorations BSE, BSF and BSG into the openings on the port side of the stem. Now glue decorations BSB, BSC and BSD into the openings on the starboard side of the stem.

Test fit the bow platform onto the stem, engaging it with the frames, adjusting the fit if necessary, then glue in place. Take the two rails supplied with stage 106 and stain/paint them the same colour as the hull. Once dry, glue the two parts onto the steps of frames BS2, BS3, BS4 and BS5. Now stain/paint the inner sides of the two stem panels the same colour as the hull and the outer sides red (RAL3020). Glue the panels to the sides of the frames with the red facing outwards. Ensure the upper edges of the panels are flush with the tops of the frames and the rear edges are aligned with the rear ends of the platform.

Marking out the deck. Note: If you follow the instructions to mark out the joints on the main deck then you will find the pattern does not match up once you get around the deck opening. The measurements given however, are correct. Mark out the deck joints and nails with a pencil then carry out the same action on the other decks.

As previously mentioned, there is nothing in the instructions going forward advising to stain or varnish the decks. I chose here to apply two coats of natural oak stain however; you can decide to leave as is or stain with a colour of your choice.

Store any unused parts in a bag labelled with this stage number.

This stage is now complete.

The natural oak stain looks good. She didn’t have much time to bleach out under the sun, or get Holy Stoned...

Nice choice of deck colour and beautiful painting of the beak decorations Love
Man he took his time in the sun
Had a dream to understand
A single grain of sand
He gave birth to poetry
But one day will cease to be
Greet the last light of the library...We were here!

Stage 108 Contents: Decorations and a Wooden Strip.

At this stage of the build I chose to give the decks one final coat of stain. When dry, I then stained the inner bulwarks with 2 coats of Antique Pine.

Retrieve the HR fret supplied with Stage 83, then separate 17 HR1 pieces and one HR2 piece from the fret and carefully clean all the edges. Glue them onto the gunwale following the measurements shown in step 3 of the instructions. Repeat the process on the other side of the hull.

Paint/stain parts HR1, HR2 and the top edge of the gunwales the same colour as that used on the main hull. Paint the door frames and the exposed tops of the frames/ribs with a dark brown (RAL 8022). I decided on paint as wood stain doesn’t work too well with cast metal parts.

Retrieve the tool T1 supplied with stage 57 and two 3 x 3 x 300mm wooden strips supplied with stage 83. Use slot ‘D’ of the tool to shape one side of each strip. Paint the two shaped strips light grey (RAL 9002). Cut one of the strips to fit over parts HR1 and HR2 on the port side of the hull with the shaped side of the strip facing outwards, glue it into place. Repeat on the starboard side of the hull.

Remove any burrs or flash from parts C151a and C151b supplied with stage 107. Glue the arms to the figures, creating 7 figures in total. Apply a coat of metal primer to each of the figures and leave to dry. Follow the painting guide provided within the instructions to paint the decorations. When dry, carefully store the decorations and any unused parts in a bag labelled with this stage number.

This stage is now complete.

Excellent work as always Alan, making great progress and looking really good, very well done. I should think you'll have enough figures to model the entire population of 'Lilliput' by the time you've finished painting them all! Blink BigGrin
