Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. A bit more work completed this week, but not loads as my flat is cooking!  I started by drilling into the base of the lower deck gun to accept a 1.6mm brass dowel. I then began planking the lower deck in mahogany as per the original with 2.0mm wide x 0.5mm thick strips. I used 0.5mm plastic spacers to give me the correct gap. 0.5mm in 1/48 scale is roughly equivalent to 1 inch in real life. I then ran out of mahogany strip!   . I have ordered more from Cornwall Model Boats, but in the meantime I started to cut away some of the planking to accommodate the rearmost water-tight ammunition container. Hi Phil all looking good and nice work. One question would the deck planking your just adding have cross members below them to aid drainage or was it just a front to rear drainage design. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I imagine there would be cross members. Most of the photos I've seen don't show this detail, so open to artistic license. I've attached a photo of U995's deck so you can see the deckng, however, you can just make out what might be cross members. From a model making perspective, adding cross members would be detrimental to the strength, as the veneer i'm using for the planking is only 0.5mm thick, making it very fragile. Weight applied to any part not supported by cross members would easily break. Regards, Phil. Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. Well its been a couple of weeks since my last post. During that time whilst laying the mahogany decking on the lower deck, I noticed that some of the strips weren't as neat as they should of been, so I removed these and made some more. Plus I spent a few evenings not doing any modelling and just chilled, watching random stuff on YouTube. Suffice to say that the mahogany decking is now complete on the lower deck with just the tiniest amount of trimming to do; should take a couple of hours next week to complete.
