I will next get a lead time for delivery, and pass it on to all Thank you MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Its the beading between the guns Don't get too carried away, there are a number of trims still to add to the hull I agree with Tomick. There are a number of parts to be added to our model, which I am sure will be different from the Caldercraft/Jotika/Mantua/Amati/Billings models but we are building the Artesian Latina version (with a few differences). I love to see other people adapt their models to make them more realistic, and individual. I also think you have done a good job, getting Jotika to make your pikes. The problem I have with all this is when everyone starts seeing other bits and pieces on other kits, some people then start to disparage the model we are building, it's similar to the copper plating issue, with people moaning about having to pay extra. We have a very good kit here, with some great historical information from the magazines. it may not be as accurate in detail as some other kits, but if you want that accuracy then stop building this and go and buy the Jotika/Caldercraft kit.

Though the Jotika/Caldercraft kit also has shortcoming's such as it not having sails....

I`ve downloaded all the drawings and item list of the jokita and yes Mr T is right there is no mention of sails also no mention of flags or netting, perhaps someone in the know could put me right on these details. I know its the best wooden kit on the market at the mo (it has to be at that price) but looking at the drawings there is room for improvement the eighth gun port from the rear on the lower deck is in the wrong place, it should be about 10mm forward to allow for the wider entry port climbing steps, the front gang board is the worst one I`ve seen, and I don`t think there`s a natural finish option. I still believe its the best one out there but there`s only so much that can be done with a wooden model without making it too technical to build

It most definately does not have a sail set nor is one available, it is also missing both stern davit boats; that said the kit has the most accurate build content of any Victory kit; but like all kits, there is room for improvement to suit your own desire.
The missing stern boats is a bit of a mystery, Victory is reported to have carried six boats at Trafalgar which included two 25' cutters on the Quarter Davits, though there is some scope for argument about the size of cutters carried, but current thinking has settled on 25' as carried on the restored Victory.
According to Brian Lavery, Quarter davits were certainly in use by 1805, and without them where would the two cutters have been stored. Quarter boats would normally have been launched just prior to the battle for the purposes of message carrying, crew pick up etc; The skid boats were all damaged during the Battle.
Precisely when Victory was fitted with Quarter davits is something of a mystery. She most probably had them following her refit of 1803, but their fitment could have reasonably taken place anytime during refits during the 1780s or 90’s, but they are not specifically mentioned in the refit records. There is slightly more evidence regarding the fixed stern davits that Victory had for many years, following her restoration in the 1920s, but they were removed certainly by the 2005 restoration for the bicentenary of Trafalgar, which suggests that the Historical committee also doubted their fitment at the time of Trafalgar. There is a reference in 'Nelson's Ships' by Peter Goodwin, in relation to the contemporary model of Victory in her 1803 configuration: "Also there are no fixed boat davits, these were abolished with the introduction of the closed stern circa 1796."
As for the kit, it also includes (upon request) the timber work to produce the model to the current specifications as she stands in Portsmouth, for example timberheads, capping and hammock cranes for the forecastle.
There is no natural finish option for this model simply because it is a replca of the 1805 Trafalgar Victory which is the painted version and corresponding spec.
As for its accuracy....
"After more than two years of extensive research and development, using information and sources previously unavailable, this is the most historically accurate, highly detailed kit of Victory in her Trafalgar condition available. Our model is very different to other manufacturers, and the amendments are the result of our own research verified by Mr. Peter Goodwin, and further research provided by Mr. Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin is the Keeper and Curator of H.M.S. Victory in Portsmouth and is currently heading the project, researching Victory's true Trafalgar configuration."
You simply can't argue with that unless you have specific historical proof that indicates otherwise.

Mr T has really said it like it is, thank you for your input. I for one will try to add detail that I wish to see on my model,(Its a personal thing) I stand by my previous statement that De Ag have produced a fantastic model of the Victory at a price that everyone can afford because they can buy monthly, not everyone can afford over £800 in one payment. Plus we have a first class Guy, in Mr T, showing us week by week how to build it and get the best out of our hard earned money during the build. We also have a great Forum of like minded people, who encourage and give tips and advice to those who ask, and also knowledge through their build diaries. Through economies of scale working together we can add those little extras if we so which to our respective builds MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi everyone, Had a great meeting today re our Boarding Pikes. The measurements for the Foremast and Mainmast as per the partwork instructions and parts of the publication BUILD THE VICTORY by DE AGOSTINI. Have been given to them, to form the basis of the tooling before manufacture. The tooling and preperation for manufacture will take approx 4 weeks (19th September 2011) Manufacture will take approx 2 weeks after that (3rd October 2011) Payment of £15:00 per set (1 x pike for the Foremast, and 1 x pike for the Mainmast) will be required, from people who have ordered this product, W/C 12th September 2011 to form the basis of the amount of sets to be placed as a firm order. (payment mode to be advised) People who have ordered, I will PM you to confirm final details. People who wish still to order please PM me with your requirements.
