A little trimming, possibly make another short length of mahogany strip to fit around the base of the Flak gun. You can't really tell from this photo, but it catches my eye, so i'll have to remedy that! Well that's it for this weeks update. As I mentioned before, a small bit of tidying up still required before I can say the lower deck mahogany planking is complete, but it's nearly there. Good afternoon from 'The Dockyard'. Well, I've completed the fitting of the mahogany strips to the conning tower upper deck. See attached photo, which also shows the cut-outs for the water-tight ammunition canisters and flak guns. That concludes this weeks update. Next week I hope to blacken the mahogany strips as per the real thing and then sand these back to look worn. I also intend to get all the guns and canisters, for the upper and lower decks, painted, weathered and fitted!! Woop woop!! When it's complete, which will probably be sometime in 2021, i'll sit back with a beer and spend a bit of time just looking at it and enjoy it. After that, I'm going to contact the curator of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum and see if there's a possibility of having it on display there. It would be pretty cool if after a couple of years there to take it on tour and display it at a maritime museum in Germany and from there maybe the Smithsonian Institute in the U.S. Big dreams I know.
