The little 1/32 Jaguar XKR kit is a really good model that has lots of scope for modifying or even just painting a different colour.
Being a Jaguar fan, I particularly liked the scheme of the blue CBT race car. Now, it would have been easy to just repaint the kit and add different decals but the real car happens to have a widened body. How to do that?
It involved getting a second body shell from Airfix to begin with. In fact, Airfix kindly sent me two when I explained what I wanted to do – no charge.
First, one body was cut into pieces so I could get the required side sections. These parts were trimmed and shaped and then glued over another body shell. The joins and gaps were filled with green putty and then sanded to shape. Once primed and then painted, I set about widening the wheels and printing my own decals.
A new rear spoiler was made up using old photo etch pieces and sheet plastic.
I must admit I was pleased with the outcome so now I have two very different XKR’s on my shelf…roymattblack attached the following image(s):
