Help! I just finished my build and R2 on start up, R2 jumps forward then shows a red status light. Nothing else happens. I did notice that the LED on the back of his head does come on for a second at first, but then it goes out as well. I tested and charged the batteries over the last couple days before I put them in and they all seemed to be good. I also noticed that there are blue LEDs glowing through the plastic on each of the canisters on the main feet. Thanks

Sounds like a battery issue. The red light usually means is doesn’t have enough charge. It could also mean the batteries don’t have the right mAH capacity. Check here with the troubleshooting guide. https://forum.model-space.co.uk/...aspx?g=posts&t=30247Mark

I started with the TS guide. The batteries are 18650 3.7v 2600mAh rechargeable Li-ion batteries bought from Amazon - they look just like the ones in the magazine. When I put them in they all registered "FUL" on the tester. SO should I try recharging them inside of R2 or what is my next step? MarkBuchholz attached the following image(s):

First check that they are unprotected batteries. You must individually charge the batteries in the supplied charger first before placing them into R2’s. It is very unusual that they would be fully charged when bought. This usually takes a several hours to get the batteries in the same state. Then insert them into the R2 unit and follow the startup procedure as stated in the magazine, issue 100, again this is very important to do this. This prepares the batteries and only needs to be done the first time new batteries have been inserted. Regards Mark

I did test and charge them before I put them in. According to the info when I bought them, they are unprotected. Is there any way to verify on the batteries themselves since they are no longer listed on Amazon (red flag there)?

I just removed the batteries and verified on the tester that they all say "FUL". After the start up procedure, he turns on, but nothing is changed.

Pull the batteries out and make sure they are making good contact in the battery pack. Sometimes they don't make good enough contact. Either the spring side is no longer touching, or if the button is not big enough, then the positive side may not make good contact. After you pull the batteries, you may need to redo the initialization process again.

I removed the batteries and checked them again on the tester - two were no longer showing FUL. I charged them and reinstalled all the batteries. R2D2 is string up most of the way correctly at this point except he now slams his head first one way and then the other on start up and does not move it after that. When i move it using the app, it moves REALLY fast...very hard to get the camera pointed at anything without over slewing it.

Glad to see the battery issue is sorting itself out. Check the cables in the head motor make sure they are the correct way round or seated correctly. Also check the pivot in the dome is seated right. I’m sure he’ll be up and running soon. I’m afraid it will be just checking cables methodically. Let me know how you get on. Regards Mark
