Stage 38

Stage 38 contents:-
Parts fret and nails.

Take the fret and remove the hatches and assemble and glue both of them. When dry sand the assembled hatches flat like you did with the other hatches previously made. Make sure you save and store the fret as it has parts to be used in a future stage.

NOTE- When you are planking one side of the hull to complete a stage the other side of the hull is planked in the same way so both sides are a matching assembly.

Next on any side of the hull glue a strip between frames 4 to 7 making sure the strip is only half way across frames 4 and 7. Glue another strip between frames 7 to 10 and to end this run another strip between frames 10 and 11.

At the bow from frame 4 add another strip making sure it goes past the bow by a minimum of 1mm. Add another strip from frame 5 forward below the one just fitted. Working backwards on the plank just fitted glue a strip between frames 5 to 8 and then frames 8 to 10. Add another strip in this row from frame 10 to 13 making sure the plank follows the curve of the hull and its end butts up to the plank already fixed to frame 13.Repeat these step on the other side of the hull.

Stage complete.

Store any unused parts in a labelled bag for future use .

Wooden strips and a hatch.

Continue adding strips to the hull starting with a strip between frames 4 to 7 then add another plank forwards to the bow. Now fix a strip from frame 7 to 9. Take another strip and fix it from frame 12 rearwards filling the gap you left when the plank above it was fixed in the last stage. When the strip is dry trim it at the end of frame 16.

Next add another strip against the keel between frames 5 and 8 then add another from frames 8 to 11. Draw a pencil line 10mm down at the stern end of the keel. Now lay a strip from frame 11 glueing and nailing it as you go backwards the end of the strip should be in line and glued below the 10mm mark. Use clamps to hold the strip in place.

At the bow fix another strip from frame 6 forward the strip should be in line with the bottom of frame 3. Clamp the strip at the bow until the glue has dried. Add two planks rearward to frame 12 from the last one you fitted. Now at the bow fit another strip above the one just fixed nailing and glueing as you work forward . Clamp the strips at the bow to hold them in position. Repeat these step on the other side of the hull.

Take the hatch from stage 39 and the one included with stage 23. Clean and smooth the hatch from stage 39 and then paint it white to match the other hatch. Take the etch parts from this stage remove them from the etch fret and remove any burrs.
