Hi,
I can't get R2 to activate. I've tried the few seconds with the switch off, pulled the adapter and turned it on. I've also tried leaving it on with the adapter in, checked the connections, and tried two sets of batteries(first were ultrafire, second were samsung). All the tests during assembly that I tried worked fine. Any ideas of what else to try?

Had trouble with mine initially as well. Took out the battery box, checked all the batteries and reinserted them, making sure there was good positive side contact. It worked. I think some batteries may not have a large enough positive tip welded on. Really wish they had used a more standardized battery.

I can check that again, although they all appeared to make solid contact. The springs moving toward the side seemed to be a bigger problem.

Still can't get this thing to activate. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I'm considering just trying to take it all apart and rebuild it, but I really don't want to have to go there.

Hi John If you have, or can borrow a multimeter, check there is power coming out of the battery box. If you’ve taken the batteries out, it may want the startup procedure doing again. The leads coming out of the battery box never show voltage UNLESS R2D2 is plugged in (ON switch position doesn't matter). When unplugged the leads coming out of the box show no voltatge. R2 also does nothing whenthe box is connected to the unit AND R2D2 is plugged in. No lights no battery charge indicator, nothing. Any ideas? EDIT - only because I am out of options - I think the 12V coming out of the box is bypassing the batteries altogether and it just showing the flow through from the mains. It will show 12V even with no batteries in the box and plugged in. Neither of my battery boxes will output 12V if I just measure at the connector. Edit 2 NEVERMIND!! - I found the problem. I had 1 connector backwards - and even more IDIOTIC (keep in mind It's been 6 months since I tried this the last time) I forgot that to turn R2 on you had to not only turn the switch on, but press the on button on the front lol. (Also verified my first battery box was still bad).

When fixing an issue on mine, I was convinced it was a different button, took 10 minutes to work that one out. Glad you’ve all sorted. Mark

I'm ready to give up on this, I've wasted a ton of time trying to get this thing to work, looks like I also wasted $1200 or so. Really dislike the way you have to make 30 connections at the end, then make them difficult to access, and hope it works. Would be nice if there were some test steps along the way.

The battery box is not just a battery box.It has a circuit board on it.You need to go through the activation steps in the instructions first to activate the circuit in the battery box.Once you have done that you can then verify that there is 12V coming out of the battery box.IF there is no voltage coming out of the box you need a new battery box (provided you batteries are the correct type).If you are getting 12V out of the battery box then the problem may be the MCU.
