I wasn't sure whether to post this here in the vehicles bit, or the 'how to' area but as it's mainly pictures and a bit of my neverending waffle, I thought here would be better. The kit is the AMT Pontiac GTO - or 'Goat' as it's often known. From the outset I knew it would be a custom vehicle although I'm determined to do one in all over gloss black one of these days, like the one in the movie Knight and Day. The actual build is pretty stock apart from a few extra wires etc in the engine area. The main changes were with the paint. I had a fair idea of the 'look' I wanted so when it came to painting, I searched out genuine car custom paints which I could get in little sample pots. Let me say though, the paint actually cost me around triple the price of the kit. A primer coat was first, followed by a green/purple/gold/cherry base. I think the paint is called 'flip-flop' if I remember. After that, it was masked up with Tamiya tape etc, and paper stencils were cut to make the patterns on the sides. These were put in using an air brush, with white pearl and various colour-changing blues and greens. Again, the names now escape me. The bonnet (hood) was airbrushed freehand. Once de-masked, and allowed to dry for about a week, it all then had a good gloss coat. The chrome work (LOTS of it) was added using BMF and then final assembly commenced. Overall I was quite pleased. Sadly, the pictures really do not show the custom colours and how they change depending on the angle you look at them. In a way, being able to print complex decals etc these days has made me a bit 'lazy'...

In reality, the paint genuinely pops. A shame it doesn't show in pics.
I'm tempted to make a start on an Edsel I've had in my stash for a good few years.
I do like the 50's - 60's American cars.

That paint job is amazing. GTOs are always a big hit at car shows over here and I have seen plenty with custom paint jobs like the one you did. They are not that expensive to buy if you can do some work on them.You can get a driver 1966 GTO for about $30,000 and if you do a good restoration you can command in the upper $60,000 for them.

Very nice Roy. I think the amt range is really good for some unusual american cars. Certainly vehicles you would struggle to get under any other brand. Tony. Happy Modelling

I'm quite partial to the 50's - early 60's US cars.
I just wish someone made kits of the GM Motorama or 'Dream' cars.

Lovely finish Roy. I'm quite partial to American cars of that era myself. I like the effect the glass table gives. Looks like it's sitting on water. Graham I was drowning my sorrows. But my sorrows they'd learned to swim.
