The 1927 Fiat 806 is perhaps the first race car to be designed and built solely for Formula 1 racing. It took advantage of the rule changes for that year ( engine size, no requirement to carry a mechanic etc. ) with the intention of Fiat proving to Alpha Romeo that it could beat them. It only raced once, at Monza, setting pole and winning with Pietro Bordino as pilot. The 1.5Ltr “U-12” engine enabled a reported top speed of 240 Km/h. After the Monza success all examples were destroyed at the order of Agnelli who had made his point to Alpha. No colour pictures exist. This 1/12 scale Italiari kit was my prize for winning the Modelspace F1 historic competition last year. It was a challenge to build as the parts need plenty of attention to fit correctly but at least it has scope for some nice extra details. It’s a great model to have in the collection and has sparked an interest in me to get more F1 models of cars that proved significant to the sport over the years ( and not just to concentrate on McLaren which I have been doing up to this point ).
