Hi all Frustration has set in....all day trying to get the Wales right is there a formula a measurement to get the middle wale in the right place tried the pic in the issue 42 tried matching it with other builds in their photos to no avail if anybody can help please do Paul

hi spity all i did was put them on as per the book & then ajust them till they look right, having probs with the lower one now tho

I had problems with my wales, and understanding that everybody's builds were different, I followed the mag, and also looking at other builds and adjusted my wales to as close to the plans in the mag...mine are a few millimetres out here and there, but as close as damn it...hope this helps...

Hi Spity, i followed the magazine and also took a good look at the more experienced builders photos such as karl and son of bulwark. if you use a decent glue it will allow you to adjust to your own satisfaction by looking along the length of the build then a single pin to allow more movement current builds

Hi Spity,
I also tried to follow the mag, even though the image is not very precise for this.To keep the distance between the whales I used a piece of scrap wood
It was't easy to maintain the "swing" but I think it is okay.

Hi Spity360
I had the same problem. The instructions are not very clear. After reading them a number of times looking at Tomick official build and other build diaries I used the following points as the top of the center wale.
Bow end is clear from the instructions,the top of middle wale is level with bottom of slot in bow section.
The stern end I used the center point of the lower window aperture of the gallery as the top of the center wale
The other reference point I used was the bottom of the entrance port were the top of the center wale is just below the entrance port.
Then create a sweeping curve between these points.
I has installed the top 3 planks of the lower wale 12mm away (using a pair of compass to mark the 12mm space) from the bottom of the center wale and they seem to be as in the position at the stern as per the instructions.
