BigGrin The main body decals are done just some decals left for the wing mirrors and wheels, the Tyres will be logoed up using the metal masks provided in the upgrade kit. The decal set itself was very good quality and although at times a challenge the results speak for themselves I think. Would I do another car with a decal set like this yes I would the GoodSmile racing team also ran BMW's that season each one with a different wrap I wonder if I can find that decal set out there. Cool

Hi Carl

I have always done it that way and without a problem buts its how you apply the clear cote that is the secret. I use Zero paints 2k for my models but it has had reports of being Hot and destroying decals as have other brands of 2K.

The secret is the first cote of 2K, only spray a very fine mist coat over the decals then leave it for 10 minutes. Next add another coat but bat at a medium spry again leave for 10 minutes. lastly do a final wet coat.

Andy

Thanks for the tip.I finally got some zero paints and will be using it shortly.

Beautiful work Andy. I love the Goodsmile Racing livery. Fujimi does the BMW Z4 GT3 series cars. I built one, but messed it up. I used Tamiya gloss white, and it crazed on me after a couple of months. Most annoying, but I shall have another go.

Hi Andy,

This is a fabulous piece of work.
I have a couple of questions,
As this is obviously a decal set that is applied in layers. does the decal instructions have an order for the application of the decals or is there just a view of the finished car showing where the decals are applied?
How do you mix your 2K clear coat to allow such an extended time between coats (when I have used it in the past it seems to start curing after 15 minutes) or do you mix a separate batch for each application?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance for any info you can pass on.

Best Regards

Keith.

Thanks for looking in Keith and your comments.

The decal set came with instructions that indicated the decals position but no sequence to lay them but its not hard to work out a sequence of application.

I use Zero paints Diamond 2K coat that I mix in one batch although depending on how hot the weather is I will add more thinner at times, only by a small amount 5ml to 6ml for instance . The mix stays liquid in the mixing pot but as its a thin coat on the item being sprayed it is curing.

When the final wet coat is applied dont touch it for at least 24 hours but you probs already know this.

Andy
