I finally completed the upper planking and as the bow planks were quite close to 14mm above the deck supports, I added an extra narrow strip. Closed off the gallery support brackets and taped in some polystyrene packing so that the lower hull can be planked.
Any comments, good or bad please, would be appreciated.

I have been lining the gun ports using 1.5 x 4mm as supplied. All was fine on the port side.
Then I made a mistake. I lined a complete row of starboard gun ports without looking at the planks too closely
until I tried my little home made 9mm x 9mm guage in the finished openings. I couldn't understand why it just wasn't passing through until I looked again at the planks. They were 2mm thick so now I have the job of sanding back the openings to get them to 9mm square. At least it was only one row.
Lesson learnt: Even though the package says they were 1.5mm, always check them first.

All looks great to me, nice build.
Dont worry, we all made mistakes. Until you can corrct it without too much damage, it’s OK. Cool
Happy building!

Update photos now that first four rows of lower planking are complete.
Gun ports all lined, including the two beneath the gallery.

Well done on getting all your port openings lined.

That is a massive load of work and one of the areas that does get tedious.

Your getting on really well with your build.

Hope it continues well.

Tony

Thanks for your comments, Tony.
I actually found lining the ports quite therapeutic and only worked on it when I really felt like it,
rather than giving myself set periods of time.
A couple more progress photos here.

Must say i really like your work space.

I am limited to table sharing so time gets taken up with setting up snd packing away - does tend to limit my time.

Hope your build continues as well as it is. You will soon have that hull all sealed up.

Thank you Tony. I am very lucky that we have a spare room that I have set up with a wallpapering table.
I screwed a piece of chipboard on top to make it rigid then attached a couple of work lamps.
You are right, it makes a lot of difference if you can just walk away and leave everything where it is.
All I need now is for my wife to decide that she wants to use the space to wrap Christmas presents!!

More planking progress but I have developed a few "dipped" areas along the way.
Hopefully, once the hull is sanded, the dips will be reduced and the rest can be taken care of with filler.

Hi Goddo, if you change the format of your pics from jpeg to jpg you will find they will show on your posts... Very few will take the time to download pics to view.....

Hope this helps.

A little bit of progress on the hull planking.
I'm hoping to get the final planks on over the holiday and then sanding down will begin.
The "dips" I'm experiencing haven't been too onerous and I have had a go at filling a couple with 0.5mm thick strips and sanding back. It seems to be working at the moment.
Apologies for uploading pics with wrong extensions.
In the meantime, Have a Merry Christmas A Happy New Year to everyone.

Looks good Chris.

I put together a calculator for the last 10 planks you might find useful. Have a look at the link in my signature.

Chris

You are doing so well with this one. Will not be long now before you have that hull all sealed up.

Hope you have a good Christmas and get the time to press on with your build.

Thank you for your kind comments.
Just thinking ahead a little, I have some Model Craft flexi sanding sticks of varying grades plus flat sheets of sand paper but wondered if anybody had used or had an opinion on, the Tamiya sanding sponge sheets as offered by Cornwall Boats. Do they offer any advantages at all?
