Hi All, Had some more time on the Pearl this weekend Fitted & rigged the main deck guns, as with the guns on the deck below, I used my own interpretation on the rigging. I know it’s by not accurate or even correct, but I feel it looks better than the methods suggested in the instructions. The thick thread around the back of the barrel is 0.8mm thread left over from my Victory and the remaining thread is what was supplied with the Pearl. I also had some brass rings left over from my Victory. I will add rope coils to the end of the ropes at a later stage. After that I fitted the Caryatids to the gallery. The pins really helped secure them. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. Hi Guys, Thanks for looking in and for the kind replies. Answers to a few questions: Skyfire; As I was building the hull, I used an alcohol-based wood stain, a dye in fact, to make sure that the black flowed into all the nooks & crannies. Once all the assembly was complete on the hull, I used a matt black craft paint. The brand is Genuine Heritage Craft Products, I’m not sure if it is available internationally. Its quite thick so I thinned it down with water at about a 60-40% ratio – basically until it flowed easily. I then mixed up varying shades of grey that I dry-brushed on. I’m going to add more weathering once all the assembly has been completed. Malc & Tony; Thank you both for all the effort regarding my brass blackening issues. I have got hold of a bottle of Brass Black. Our local gunsmith gave me a bottle and said I can use as much as I need it. Thanks Vincent from WJ Ritchie. My first tests were great. After a minute or two the brass & copper turned pitch black!!! Only to rub off on my fingers. Done some more reading and it looks like the parts will need to be buffed with steel wool and a soak in white vinegar first. I’ll keep you posted. Not this weekend though. Tomorrow everything in our household comes to a stand-still!!! I’m going to be drowning my sorrows or dancing on the tables – either way the brandy’s going to be flowing!!! Good luck to everybody watching the rugby, let’s hope it’s a cracker of a game and cross our fingers that Mr Jerome Garces doesn’t make it all about himself!!! Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hi All, Almost wrapped up the hull assembly, I’ve still have to make the, stern lanterns, gun rope coils, barrels & crates, figures and the Figure Head. I’ll leave the figure head for last though – it just seems appropriate. Added all the bits to the handrails, fitted all the deck items, wheel, launches etc. it seems that Hachette have really left us with an awful lot of work in issue 118 & 119. I made up the anchors. I have saved all the offcut pin heads from the Victory planking; some have found a home on the reinforcing bands on the anchors. They serve no real purpose except to add some detail. Once done, they were sprayed matt black followed by various grey dry brushes. I added some GW Typhus Corrosion followed by a GW Ryza Rust dry brushing. I added a spare double block and basic rigging as in the Victory instructions. Note though, the block arrangement in the pics is incorrect. I changed it when I fitted it. The gun port lids followed the same paint procedure. I drilled a 0.8mm hole for the thread. I also kept the off-cut hinges from the Victory’s gun ports. I glued them to the Pearls hull, with off-cut nail heads for detail. They also got the same rust treatment. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Garth This looks better and better each time i see it. I think you have done a great job on shading the black finish so it has depth and looks "old". Hope it continues well - not that far to go now :-) although i am sure all that rigging will give you plenty to do. Tony Happy Modelling

Hi Guys, Once again thank you sincerely for all the kind & inspiring remarks. Sorry for the late reply, but we've had a crazy year end at the office & once I went on leave, there were a years worth of odds to do around the house. To compound this, our daughter starts school this year & we have to turn her 'baby'' room into a young girls room. A belated Merry Christmas & a very happy & prosperous New Year to all those who celebrate it Hopefully I get a day or two to do some work on my Pearl Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!"
