Hi there, Please find my pics of where i am currently with the Yamato build. I am planning of double planking this with 1mm wood which will tidy up the mistakes that are there and cover up the bottom which at the moment is a little unslightly (IMHO. I will fill in the holes in the hull with remaining wood first and then double plank form there.. I suppose the top of the sides will be level with the decking after they are placed??? Simon

Finally received the rest of my planks now even though couldn't get the same wood. Fortuneatly they will be painting so will not show.
I am double planking the hull and it actually looks pretty good. and with the painting hopefully will continue to do so.
Am hoping to finish planking tonight and will post some more pictures up over the weekend.

Hi Please see latest Photos, I have decided to double plank the Yamato because I thought that the bottom needed improving - My choice but also may be a wrong one considering i under-estimated the number of planks and by the time i realised Conwall boat models stopped selling the strips - Hence the reason for 2 different colours!

You'll likey run into all sorts of problems if your double plank is more than the thickness of the single plank, such as the bow & stern deck plate wont fit the new width, or if you do double plank the second plank needs to a be a very thin veneer plank where you might get away with it.
Why don't you simply skim the surface of the single plank layer with a filler and sand back?

Thanks for the hint. The planking I used was 1mm thick but i can sand this all back when I place the deck on top which I am planing to complete next. Hopefully it should give me an idea of how much i need to sand back.

 Looks like a good job m8, one small query though wont you end up sanding most of the secondry planking off when u start using the hull profile templates Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Simon It won't, the main wooden decks drop inside the planking, the bow and stern photo-etched decks sit on top of the planking, therefore you'll need to use the width of bow and stern deck plates as a guide, where you will need to sand the first layer back to accomodate a second layer for it to lie flush.
