DSPIAE MULTI ANGLE SLIDING SANDER”


I am quite a “fan” of the modelling tools produced by the manufacturer DSPIAE so when they recently introduced a new Precision Sander, I decided to order one.

Until now I have used a “Precision Sander” manufactured and available via Proops Brothers and while this is fine for Larger sanding jobs is not really designed for working with tiny parts (in my view).
So, what is this new DSPIAE product like.

PICTURES 1 Through 4

As with other DSPIAE modelling tools they are extremely well packed and presented. The outer boxes would almost convince you they are made of wood rather than card.

Having removed the lid, we get a foam layer with some instructions.
Under that we get another foam insert holding everything nice and secure again with some further usage instructions.

Removing that insert we then get to see the device for the first time.

PICTURES 5 & 6

The device has an engraved scale (180 degrees) and a locking thumb screw allows the arm to swing between any of these scale increments.

PICTURE 7

This shows the slide that holds the sandpaper. Its an aluminium casting but with a coating that allows it to slide on the device without binding.

PICTURES 8 & 9

We get 4 self-adhesive non sip feet in the pack and these are affixed to each corner of the unit’s base.

PICTURES 10 through 12

In the set we get a sample selection of sandpaper (its more of a wet and dry type paper) in 3 grades.

The paper is self-adhesive.

Overall DSPIAE have 10 grades of paper available, each available in packs of 30 strips.

The paper sticks firmly to the slide and if required you could use 2 grit grades – 1 either side of the slide.

Just a quick test on a scrap plank and pleased to report it works very well indeed.

These sorts of tools would come under the “Nice to Have” category as its not going to be something that would stop you modelling if unavailable. But when you do have one of those awkward, small sanding jobs to do the tool should prove its use.
