Hello guys, I'm new to this world. I bought few things from DeAgostini in order to keep me busy for the next years...
I do not have anything yet and I'm looking to buy everything I need to start building the HMS Victory and Millenium Falcon.
Any online shop you reccomend or any specific list of tools?

Hi maxcd and welcome to the forum.
There are tons of really talented modelers here that would be happy to help you with your builds. As far as tools go a really good screwdriver would be a good idea for the Falcon and there are a plethora of ship building tools you can buy.I would recommend browsing some of the HMS Victory build diaries on the forum and asking for advice on which tools people found the most helpful. There are basic tools for cutting etc and more specialized tools for plank bending and rigging and there are lots of different techniques that can be used. The HMS Victory instructions are very detailed and will help guide you through the build and you can always post questions here on the forum if you are not sure about a particular step or technique

As far as websites for purchasing tools the 2 main one I use are www.modelexpo-online.com and www.micromark.com. They both have a wide selection of tools.I would also recommend looking on ebay once you have decided which tools you want. They may have better pricing than the 2 sites I mentioned.

Good luck with your build and I hope you will post build diaries so we can all follow along with your efforts. This is a very friendly and supportive forum.

Carl

Welcome to the forum, I look forward to seeing pictures of both builds when you start. As Carl has said, there are plenty of members who would gladly help you if needed and lots of builds on both kits to stimulate your imagination, particularly on the Falcon. Good luck.Cool ThumpUp

Hi, Max, as noted, many fine craftsmen on here. As far as wood ship building, a few things I've found very helpful, just off the top of my head; a Dremel, mitre saw & box, the Midwest easy cutter, an electric plank bender, Hobby Lite wood filler, (aside from the obvious clamps, sandpaper, files, etc). Also I'd recommend Gorilla wood glue, and DAP Rapid Fuse ca gel, must faster cure time than any other gel.
(I used the Dremel, with a small diameter circular saw, to cut the gun ports, saved a LOT of time. Of course, only if you're confident you can keep a VERY steady hand! Otherwise, safely go with the drill method.
