Pack 1

Stage 1. The Canopy

Stage 1 Contains: Cockpit cover, Canopy frame, Canopy glass, Canopy rear glass (windshield), Hinge plate, 6x AM screws (x Green, 3x Grey), 3x BM screws, Magnetic screwdriver.

The canopy glass is fitted into the canopy frame, and screwed into place using the two grey headed AM screws provided. The windshield (labelled in the instructions as rear canopy glass), is fixed in place with two of the green headed AM screws.

Prepare the canopy, hinge plate and two of the BM screws. Here I deviated from the instructions a little, (and totally optional), but I removed the locating pin from the underside of the canopy frame where the hinge sits. This makes fitting the canopy glass easier and greatly reduces the chance of scratching the paintwork.

TIP: When working on the canopy with the workpiece ‘upside down’, or with the glass touching the work surface, lay it on a soft cloth to avoid damaging the glass.

Just to be doubly safe, I put a strip of masking tape over the paintwork behind where the canopy will sit. Very carefully mount the canopy onto the cockpit cover, fit the hinge plate and screw down with two BM screws. This needs to be fairly tight, but do not over-tighten, and enables the canopy to lock in the open position under friction. If it doesn’t do this, place a small piece of thin material or leather under the hinge plate.

This completes Stage One. Store any unused parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.

Stage 2. The Ejection Seat

Stage 2 Contains: Cockpit , Ejection seat, Left stabilising rod, Right stabilising rod, Seat back cushion, Headrest cushion, Headrest, Pyro-cartridges, Seat back, Leg retractor, Handles, 6x AP screws, 2x BP screws.

Fix the headrest to the rear of the ejector seat, aligning the pin on the headrest, and screw in place with an AP screw. Insert the seat back cushion into place, securing with another AP Screw. Affix the headrest into the headrest cushion, securing from behind with an AP screw. Push the two stabiliser rods onto either side of the seat. . If needed, add a little glue here as they have a tendency to work loose. The pyro-cartridges then push onto the posts on the rear of the headrest.

Insert the seat assembly into the cockpit floor, securing from underneath with a BP screw. Push-fit the red handles into the corresponding hole in the leg retractor, seating it firmly, then screw in place from the underside with an AP screw. It’s a very tight fit, so a small pair of pliers used gently, might come in handy here.

This completes Stage Two. Store any unused parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.

Stage 3: The Cockpit

Stage 3 contains: Antenna rotation mechanism, Left front fuselage panel, Right front fuselage panel, OLS sensor, OLS cap, OLS cover, Instrument panel, ILS screen, Left side panel, Thrust lever, Right side panel, Power unit, Control stick, Navigation indicator, ILS indicator, ILS frame, Dynamic pressure probe, Left attack angle sensor, Right attack angle sensor, IFF antenna, Temperature receiver, HF antenna, 2x CP screws, 2x BP screws, 5x BM screws, 7x AP screws, 5x CM screws.

As you can see, there are a lot of parts in this stage, hense the photo overload below.

Insert the ILS indicator and Navigation indicator into the holes on the top of the instrument panel. Place the ILS frame on top of the instrument panel, insert the ILS screen and secure with a CP screw. This points forward, so the screen sits at the front of the frame when mounted at the rear. Fit the joystick into the hole in front of the seat. It will only go one way as the hole is shaped. Insert the instrument panel into the notch in front of the joystick, and secure from underneath with two AP screws.

Take the left side panel and insert the thrust lever into the hole. Fix the power unit behind the seat with two AP screws, and then place the left side panel onto the left side of the cockpit. Next, insert the right hand panel to the right side of the cockpit.

Push the OLS sensor into place and secure from below using an AP screw. Insert the dynamic pressure probe into the hole in the right hand side fuselage panel and secure from behind with another AP screw.

Affix the antenna rotation mechanism to the front of the cockpit using two BP screws. Attach the OLS cap and OLS cover to the cockpit cover and secure using an AP screw. The right front fuselage panel is fitted from behind with CM screws. Push the right attack angle sensor into the hole on the side.

Secure the left front fuselage with AP screws, and then fit the IFF antenna, temperature receiver and left attack angle sensor. Fit the HF antenna into the hole behind the canopy and secure with the last AP screw. Finally, attach the left and right fuselage panels to the cockpit cover with two BM screws provided.

This completes Stage Three. Store any unused parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.

Stage 4: The Nose

Stage 4 contains:The Pitot head, Radome, Radar scanner, Left forward fairing, Gun compartment cover, Right forward fairing, 6x CM screws, 2x DM screws, 2x EM screws.

Firstly, push the Pitot Head into the hole in the front of the radome. It is a tight fit, so may need wiggling. Next attach the left forward fairing to the fuselage using two CM screws. The gun compartment cover is fitted to the fairing and secured from inside with two BM screws. Insert the radar scanner into the antenna’s rotation mechanism, and fix with an AM screw. This can prove awkwardly tight, so you may want to ‘pre-screw’ them by screwing each in turn first. Once this is done, attach the radome over the scanner and secure to the fuselage with a DM screw.

Install the right forward fairing to the right fuselage and secure from inside with two CM screws.

This completes Stage Four. Store any unused parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.

Stage 5: The Louvered Air Intakes.

Stage 5 contains:Stage 5 contains: Left louvered air intake, Right louvered air intake, Left air intake screen, Right air intake screen, 3x AP screws.

The air intakes and screens are stamped ‘L’ and ‘R’ on their undersides to aid assembly. Make sure you match each side accordingly.


This is one of those very short stages. Insert the left air intake screen into the left louvered air intake and secure with an AP screw. Repeat this process for the right air intake screen and louvered intake.

This completes Stage Five, and Pack 1. The parts in this stage are not used until later in the build, so store in a stage-labelled bag for future use.
