The next step was to start making the air compressor. This is a 4 stage high pressure air compressor; 4 stages, as it draws air in from within the boat and compresses the air in 4 stages, with each stage compressing the air to a higher pressure. The 4th and final stage will see the air at about 3000psi where it is sent through a myriad of pneumatic pipes to storage bottles to be used mainly for blowing the sea water out of the ballast tanks when the submarine has to surface.
