The upper body has been sorted now.
I didn't want to use the supplied decals for the red, as they were actually far too orange for the car I'm modelling.
Strangely, McLaren have changed their red/orange numerous times, sometimes several changes in the same season.

I masked up the relevant area and sprayed it. The area at the rear centre still has to be covered with ally BMF.

The rads have been assembled and painted as per photo reference from the Haynes McLaren book.

Upper section now fitted to the lower.

Teeny update - been a busy weekend.
I added the thin black lines to the outside edge of the red area.
It was 'fun' getting the lines straight, and equally spaced against the red/white join.

I've done a bit more on this one.

The dash area is extremely lacking in detail and wiring so using lots of photo reference I've added as much as I feel is sensible to make it all look suitably busy.

The wiring has been routed along the cockpit sides and into the rear where it's been connected in part.

The engine is to be installed next.

Many, many thanks you guys.
I'm really rattling on with this one now as I can't wait to see it finished.
The engine is in place - a doddle compared to the Tamiya 1/12 kits - and the plumbing all sorted.

I had to print my own decals as the kit parts are really useless now - cracked, stained, faded but a few now in place.
On we go with the rest of the body and the wheels.

Anyway - heading down the home straight.

Many thanks Andi.

This one is actually nearing completion so I've made a start on the big Lotus 72.
Anyway, I had a go at lettering one of the tyres.
As they need doing on both sides, that's eight lots of lettering so I thought I'd try a white marker pen.
A doddle... I wish I'd used these pens in the past.
Very dense, matt white, nice fine point.
No more difficult than just 'colouring in'...

Virtually finished now.

Decals all printed and in place, just the screen to add and then fit the wheels and final parts put on.

I'll give it all a nice clean tomorrow and then possibly clear coat it but I don't want it to be too glossy. F1 cars back in those days didn't have the 'toffee apple' shine current race cars have.

Then it's off to it's owner and on with the Lotus 72's.
