ISSUE28.just one layer of planks this week,(gonna take years at this rate)
so I did something different,I spliced the strake planks as in the real ship,(too much time on me 'ands.)although this will be covered up with the second layer,I felt I needed the practice.

thanks eddie and jonny,the early parts and some of the later parts are a -------bit suspect to say the least,but with a careful bit of work and replacements a decent model should emerge.the amount of building so far has been very low,had to find things extra to make it last,like treenailing the decks,splice joints for the planking with the pinning showing,although this will be covered up,I intend to splice the veneer as well.

It's double planked Mr T, I'm subscribed to this ship as well. In the DVD they send you, you do the basic planking, then cover with a second layer of finer wood. That's the plan anyway, although if the quality of the second layer is anything like the first??? Well we will see.

I haven't started building mine yet, but judging by the comments from yourself Karl and MWG it looks like there might have to be a bit of kit bashing by the looks of it.

I don't know what you guys think about the quality of the parts?

well we are up to issue30.and we are really getting going,a whole 2 more layers,wow eee,I thought deag were stretching out issues but this is ridiculous.because of the slow progress I will include my method on this model of how I am planking it,for the benefit on the newer builders.
I first select the plank I'm going to use,and check it for imperfections,
then sand it's face,offer it up to it's resting place,mark the rib positions,then cut the splice joint and drill for pining,if the plank is going above one that is already fixed,I chamfer the bottom edge so that it's a tight fit,then glue and pin into place.
