This is my first build of anything this size in wood

I have found that MR T's Official build is one of the most important parts of this forum.
By following his build articles and espesially his photos I am being able to make a very reasonable attempt at this build.

Whenever I have "rushed Ahead " I have made mistakes only to find the information on his build pages.

So I do hope this little post will help beginers and experts alike to improve their modeling.

I totally agree, this is my first wooden build ever of anything LOL. Without Mr T's build and the other more experienced guy's posts, I think I would have given up a long time ago. Although I am a considerable way behind most ( working at issue 30, and seriously pulling my hair out over the lower hull aft planking!) I feel its actually helped me by being that far behind as I can look at all the other guy's builds, especially Mr T's and learn a lot from it. Keep them posts coming guys....still plenty of learning to do, and here is a big thank you to all you guy's who post on the forum and allow all of us inexperienced guy's to learn and enjoy. Oh, and I must say....some of you guys must absolutely live in your sheds/workshops. Your build are absolutely awesome....keep the posts coming, once I have finished planking the hull I intend to put my build up for your scrutiny LOL.

im at same stage mwg just on with the sanding, def better to be behind in the build so any probs you come across will have already been solved & as others have said when that last plank is put in place its a real feeling of sastisfaction

Model ship or boat building is a fantastic and rewarding hobby, one that can take years to master, but does it really matter if yours is the best? NO, not unless you want an ego boost by entering competitions against other builders!
Its about building a ship/Boat that you can feel proud of, a feeling of accomplishment, and that can only be achieved when you set your own standards, not the standards of others, so don't be put off by people who rate your work against their own standards.

Another important note to mention is this, if building a part work, it is important not to make too many kit bashing alterations, unless you are fully aware of how the build is going to progress, this is due to some part work companies changing the build format, in order to achieve the required goal for first time builders, yes it's good to add more detail to your build, but unless you know what's next or how the build is going to progress, this can cause you some costly mistakes, so it's always a good idea to stick with the official build diary and instructions, and you cannot go wrong with the official build diary of our resident expert Mr Tomick!

Just remember, shipbuilding can be fun, frustrating, confusing and life altering, but when you see that finished ship on display in your home, there is nothing like it, you won't be disappointed!!!!

To all you first time builders out there! it doesn't matter which stage you are up to. Some people have more time to work on their build, while you might have family, work and other commitments to take into account.

e.g. You might have only put in 300 or 400 hours into your build, while some have sent 800 to 900 hours on there's so far.

Adding extra detail can make the ship look great but you need to know when to stop, try to add to much detail and you could so easily spoil the look of the ship so take care.

Enjoy the experience of building a great ship, gain new skills and use the forum well.
