Hi everyone, Been away for a while and am now way way behind on the build!!! I am planning to glue balsa wood in between the bow and stern frames to add extra support for planking, as i have struggled planking those bits on other builds. Only problem is i cant find any decent balsa wood! does anyone have any good web sites? the stuff on e bay looks to thin and i cant see any on cornwall model boats. Any help would be greatfully received. many thanks steve

problem with balsa wood is you wont get the thickness you require So you have to build it up gluing your balsa strips in place until you exceed the frame width then in my case using a David's plane plane it flush with the frames Looking back i would only have used balsa at the stern and bow frames as i forgot about digging out hatches on the deck

Hi Steve...I used balsa wood to pack out the bow and stern on my Vic... fortunately enough, I had a model shop in my town where I bought packs of balsa wood which I built up the layers until I filled between frames...some craft shops sell balsa wood, and if you have a friendly hardware store owner near you, he/she may be able to order in some for you? If not, there is this link? Hope this helps mate...good luck with your build...

Hi there, You could also try artist supply shops as they usually have a small stock of balsa wood. Heaven knows what artists uae it for, but that's where I picked mine up from. They were quite big blocks too so all that I needed to do was cut them to fit between the frames and shape. Happy building Daffy09

Hi Steve, Have a look at my Victory build diary, you will see Balsa is my preffered option, you can purchase bundles of Balsa Wood at Hobbycraft as well as good model shops. If the planks are thinner you can laminate pieces together.
