Just a short addition to today's entry...I purchased a tin of white undercoat from my friendly hardware store plus a one inch paint brush. I removed the strips of masking tape that I used to mark out and paint the matt black stripe yesterday...I then covered the matt black coat of paint with fresh strips of 12mm masking tape above the water line, then I took the build out back and gave her two coats of white undercoat, then left her for a further hour to dry before bringing the Vic indoors to completely dry overnight...Tomorrow, I shall apply the first of two coats of Humbrol Met 12 Copper paint...

Once I have coppered her bottom, I can turn her the right way up and start fitting the cannon, gratings and other parts that I was concerned would have fell off while Vic was upturned??? Anyway, that's my lot for today shipmates....Happy building my friends...

I can see that you have already used white as an undercoat, but in my experience I have found that black gives a better finish for copper or bronze metallic finishes. It may be that you could paint just the rudder to start with and see what you think.
This is just my personal preference and I am just sharing that thought with the forum, whatever you go with is your choice entirely, the build is coming along very nicely keep the photos coming!
Cheers Steve..

I have not had much time to myself with which to work on my build, perhaps an hour or two since last Monday...In my last posting I had given the hull two coats of white undercoat, the next day I was able to give the hull its first coat of copper paint.

I allowed the first coat to dry over night and today I was able to give the hull its second coat of copper paint, keeping even, one way brush movement as I went along...I will allow the hull to dry over night once again, then look to see if the hull requires a third and final coat? If not, then I will make a start at fitting the cannon, gratings and other parts from gun deck upwards..

I must admit that I was never very keen to carry out any painting on the lower hull after some pretty dismal failures in the past with plastic builds..But this copper paint seemed to have gone on reasonably well?? Anyway, that is all from me for today...Happy building shipmates...

I carefully removed the masking tape from around the hull this morning, all seems to have gone well, but there are a couple of places where the copper paint bled through...nothing that can not be put right.

Touching up the paintwork in a few places then painting the rudder hinges black, should see the bottom half of the hull complete for now...

Hi Johnny,

Looking great there, you must be very pleased with her.

Did you use the paint supplied by Deag? Altough Admiralty I found it a total different consistency to that supplied in the Victory paint set (bought from CMB) Found it was very thick & contained large particles that I couldn't get rid of.

Saying that after several coats, sanding between each it has come up ok. Just needs a finising top coat which I will apply with the CMB supplied paint.

My orignal intention was to paint to hide any slight gaps in the plates, but I am now thinking of just leaving it as the painted finish.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Wilfy

Thanks for your ever welcome comments shipmates much appreciated...and Wilfy, I am using Humbrol paints and the copper paint was Humbrol Met 12...It took just two coats to get to the finish you see...The only trouble I find with Humbrol paints is with, say, Gold or Copper paints, they tend to take a heck of a lot of stirring!! But it covers well...

BigGrin Hi Johny ,i seem to remember that several years ago you could get a small vibrating table[about 6x6 inches] that u sat the humbrol pots on which mixed the paint as it vibrated.Im not sure if this type of product is still available though

Okay, I had a spare couple of hours on my hands this morning so I set about painting the rudder hinges hinges a nice bright shade of Black...
Blink

Then I measured out, positioned and glued the gratings on the deck...

Not much for a couple of hours work, but the build is just that tiny bit further on...next, sorting out and fitting the cannon... something I definitely aint looking forward too!!
