The main tub is taking shape now. Side panels fitted, front and rear upper panels in place and the pumps etc added. The kit provides no wiring for any of those parts but I have some really good reference images so I've added some, still more to add. The gloss black body parts are a total PITA - fingermarks, dust, smudges... Everything shows as soon as you touch it. I'm forever cleaning and polishing it but it will just have to get a really good final buff and shine when it's complete. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Looks good so far Roy, all the cleaning will pay dividends later.

Just spotted this one !! Selfishly I tend to head straight to the "F1 members build diaries". Great start. Interested to see how these 2 builds go. Malc.

Thanks for peeping in chaps. The front frame section is now just about sorted. Lotus were very 'tidy' with their pipework and wiring back in those days as Chapman was convinced that ANYTHING out of place would affect aerodynamics and performance. Hence, most of the plumbing and cables etc were inboard and as such aren't seen on a model. Anyway, gearbox now also assembled. The instructions for this section are a total joke. There are several parts shown with just an arrow pointing at where they are meant to fit, but NO actual guide. Fortunately, my Haynes manual provided the answer - once again... BTW - the red 'rusty' look to the edges of the discs is actually nowhere near as bright as the pics makes it look. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Still moving ahead with the Lotus. Most of the rear suspension has been added now and I've started building up the main engine block. There will be lots of extra wiring and plumbing added later on as the kit doesn't really have much. Surprising for a model that is so large. Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks for peeping in chaps. There's more bits added to the engine and I've started putting in some of the assorted missing wires etc - still more to add. For a bit of fun I applied a few of the decals just to see how it looks. So far, so good but getting the long gold lines on with a nice sweeping curve is a bit of a challenge. Engine now fitted permanently to the main tub... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Moving ahead and the front assembly is now also fitted. I've added more in the way of missing wiring and pipes but there are still more to go. Also, some decals literally just added to the other side of the car. Those long sweeping lines really ARE a pain... I'm just starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Another little update for those following... This one now has all the main body parts painted with around 8-10 coats of gloss black, all sanded between. The 'shine' really doesn't show when a camera uses flash, but TBH - there are currently a mountain of finger marks that need polishing out at the end anyway. This one should be done and dusted in the next few days. GUESS WHAT - the Ronnie Peterson version is next. The last pic shows the kit with a few remaining decals/parts from the current Fittipaldi build. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Getting near the end now. I have to say that the decals are a NIGHTMARE... The gold lines are very fine and applying them in neat 'sweeps' and other shapes has taken literally 8 hours as the model is so large, any 'wobble' in the lines really shows. Mind you, I have to say this model is incredibly impressive looking. It really is HUGE even though the pics don't really show it. roymattblack attached the following image(s):
