Hello, individually recharging the Samsung 18650 INR 30 Q 3000 mAh 15 A batteries with the battery charger provided by De Agostini, having a laptop that turned off several times during charging with a USB socket, which then resumed until FUL was in the battery, some batteries have small burns around the positive pole and in some points the isolation ring is a little raised. Is it dangerous to use them on R2D2?, Because I haven't put them in the robot charger yet. Hello and thanks.

It is impossible for us to advise you what to do with a battery that you are worried about.I personally would not use a battery that had any kind of issues because Lipos can certainly do exciting things if they are damaged.I would replace that battery and use one that has no external flaws and charges well to avoid any possible damage to R2. I had a couple of batteries not charge well and some that seemed a bit distorted and I did not put those in my R2. I think most manufacturers warn you not to use LIpos that appear to have any damage-at least the ones I use for my RC heli all say dont use if you suspect they are damaged

The batteries were the first time that I recharged them with the battery charger. I ask if a charging interrupted and then resumed several times because of the laptop that turned itself off, can damage the battery?, with the effects described in my previous post.

I personally would not charge the batteries using the usb in the laptop. You are charging them using the laptops battery even if you have it plugged into the mains. Use a USB mains adapter similar to ones used with most tablets and phones. Or use a mains socket with a USB incorporated in it if you have one. As Carl has said if you have defective batteries I would recommend replacing them before inserting them in R2. Regards Mark

I concur with Mark’s comments regarding charging by laptop. Computers are unable to supply the correct current requirements for recharging large batteries. With regard to the burn marks on the connectors, these are most commonly caused by the production process where the contact tabs are welded onto the battery and sometimes leave burn marks. DO NOT just use any old phone charger as some can emit upto 5amps or even more which is highly dangerous when charging 18650 cells. This is horrendous advice and I can not believe de agostini is still allowing this to be given. If you use a charger plug rated too high amps for either the charger device it the battery then you can cause it to vent and explode. MAX charge current rated for your cells is 2A, but recommended is 0.5-1A, charging at 2amp is fine but will severely limit the life of the cell. There are many different versions of USB and each giving a different output capacity. Personally I would throw away the supplied charge unit and buy a proper dedicated 18650 li-ion charger. If you are at all concerned about the batteries then replace them. I very much doubt a laptop would cause any damage from simply shutting down and restarting. If the shutdowns however were caused due to power cuts then it is possible there could have been a power surge before this which can potentially damage ANY device plugged in. Hi, thanks for the help, I followed de agostini's instructions in using the battery charger supplied for charging the 18650, instead you are telling me that it should not be used. The batteries I ordered online did not show any signs of burning or lowering of the insulation before recharging them. Among other things, I had previously used 18650 batteries by Melchioni, unique found in an electronics store and after having recharged them with the battery charger dea they have no defect unlike the samsung. I ask you, you can photograph with a smartphone the detail on the positive pole to show it to you, the battery with the photo on the defects does not get damaged, right? . Let me know, bye.

If you are concerned about the batteries, then don’t use them. I would recommend you talk and get advice from the source you bought them from or ask them for a replacement. Mark
