Hi all, BigGrin

A little history behind the story.

As some of you may know I do some voluntary rubbish clearing from a local canal in Loughborough in the East Midlands UK.

We work from a small boat with a max crew of four, but we make some great collections for a small group.

Unfortunately just over a week ago the gear box on our outboard started to give up, so in for repair it went.

Its a 3.5 hour journey to the repair yard, approx 9 miles, seven locks and numerous bridges.

In recent floods a narrow boat had broken loose from its moorings and came to an awkward rest when the waters receded. As if that was not bad enough the protection barrier that it ended up on collapsed and it turned on its side.Blink Blink

In eight days time they are going to try and recover the vessel and move it to a place for repairs after pumping out the water. Crying Crying

Pic 1: A five hour collection on our little boat.

Pic 2: Clearing invasive weed last summer. (That`s not me)

Pic 3: Where the narrow boat initially came to rest.

Pic 4: Where the narrow boat came to rest after the barrier collapsed.

If I can get there in just over a week, I`ll try and get some of the recovery pictures. Be the end result good or bad. Confused Confused

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

That days collection was one of our smaller ones, We`ve come back to our base when we have had to be very careful how we turned the boat for fear of turning it over as we were top heavy.

As for shopping trolleys the shops don`t want them back, even if they are brand new as they are classed as contaminated.

A big days collection is shown in the four pics below:

The trolley in this set is new, but as the store don`t want it returned we use it to trundle rubbish to the skip rather than handball it 25 yards to the skip.

Crying Crying Crying

The final pic shows the legacy of our efforts. I think it looks stunning.BigGrin

I’ve an acquaintance over there, that loves paddling wooden canoes on the canals. His pictures all look so fantastically peaceful.

Keep up the great work! It really doesn’t get more rewarding than environmental stewardship.
