After a property move and a fair bit of DIY I have decided it is time for a new build. After some deliberation I have opted for the OcCre Stevenson's Rocket.
I have build their kits before and am aware that their build instructions can be a bit sparse (Here are the parts and here are some pictures Confused Confused )

Will start with the wooden parts, I intend to complete as many as I can before I start on the painting. I will add pictures as I go.

Starting with boiler. The tank itself is straight forward, I did bevel the sides of the wooden strips to give a better fit. The ends of the boiler uses pins to create the rivets and these need to be trimmed. A word of caution here, the pins when cut tend to fly in all directions so wear glasses.

Next the fire box. Ensure you have the orientation of the sides correct. It is easy the get them the wrong way round. The top of the box consists of strips which again I beveled to give a nice fit. Again the rivets are created by using the pins provided.

The eight wheels come next. each wheel consists of two parts. The main drive wheels have 38 pins each. Again these need to be trimmed. I need to add some aluminium strips to complete the wheels before painting.

Boiler support next - No problems here

Water tank next. I cut the staves to length and used my plank bender to create a curve. This makes it easier to fit/glue. Initially i used elastic band to hold the the staves in place but the kept slipping off. In the end I found that the cutout from the wheel where just the right size to fit over the end of the water tank and this held the staves in place whilst the glue set. Need to add the second layer of planking.

Back to the tender to add additional supports. Think I got this right the pictures are not to informative here.

One thing I have found with OcCre is that their customer service is excellent. Broken/Missing parts are replaced very quickly. So far so good no issues.

Lots of fiddly bits to spray with this kit. So decided I needed a turntable to help me. Being parsimonious I felt sure I could devise one from bits and bobs laying about in my garage/workshop.

Take one empty CD spindle add a piece of offcut timber. Drill the correct size hole on the block and trim the spindle. Insert the CD holder into the hole in the block and bingo one hand driven turntable. When using I use a small platform to hold the target piece (BlueTac can be useful for smaller pieces, The spray cans can and will eject smaller components off the platform)

You can now move the target piece to facilitate spraying

Jobs a goodun BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

Very clever - and simple.
I think I just might nobble that idea myself as literally everything I do is painted using rattle cans...BigGrin

Many thanks, Roy

No problem

I think one of the best things about this forum is the free advice/suggestions
offered by members to assist with either specific builds or just in general

Time for an update :-

Lots of small components to this build, but as I am no longer able to leave the house (Except for "essential" shopping like Beer) I should have more time to build.

As stated in my previous post the build instructions are vague and sometimes misleading, but I like a challenge.

The attached pictures will show how far I have got. With the number of parts there is a lot of gluing, waiting then painting and yet more waiting.

My next step is to finish the construction and painting of the wheels. This should be fun as with all my other models the wheels have been provided fully constructed so watch this space.

1st issue with the wheels

How do you hold in place unruly lengths of thin aluminium whilst the glue drys?

Answer :- raid the Christmas decoration box for the small wooden pegs used to hang up the cards. A small mod to the end to facilitate a firm fit and jobs a goodun

Next update on this build

Adding pipework to the engine unit. A lot of small parts and pipes to shape and install. This is one build that requires a lot of patience, waiting for glue/paint to dry.

Have run out of some of the colours and as I am not allowed out this will slow down the build. Will try amazon to resupply.
