Oh No...Crying Crying Crying .. really feel for you Phil and know how disappointed and angry you must be. On the positive, I know with your skills you'll find a way to remedy the damage so it will never be noticed... Once the build is complete you'll think back and feel pride as to how you managed to overcome this setback.... Keep at it my friend, it will all be worth it in the end.....Cool Cool

Best regards

Alan

I’ve got 2 of the U-boat. I’ve sent you PM, and I can send you the rest of your parts. (You’ve gotta keep your eyes open for replacement parts though!!)

Thank you all for your messages of support and help. Very much appreciated. After a period late last night of disbelief, anger and sadness, I now feel confident that all is not lost.

My biggest worry was not being to replace the large plastic moulding that makes up the area affected, but worry no more!BigGrin Parts are winging their way to me. Thank you Mark! I also bought some more Kriegsmarine paint, rivets and weld lines.

Admittedly Kev, the damage does look rather good, now i'm in a better mood.flapper]

Thank you Alan for your kind words. The boat build will go on!!

Another short update will be posted on Thursday on what i have been up to.

Regards,
Phil W.

Phil,

Bad things happens. That's just the way it is. Our greatest accomplishments in life are gained by facing the problem pragmatically, deciding what needs to be done to rectify it and then do it. Simple, the problem is now behind you and you accept the consequence of the error. No more problems, more work yes, but you already know every detail of the work to be done. The satisfaction you will feel when the boat is finished will be overwhelming!

65 years of modeling talking. The number of trashed models beyond count, but every so often.... you do it. Oh, a bit of USMC philosophy on problem solving thrown in also.BigGrin

Wonderful, inspiring work.

Ohhh Dear, just catching up with things. As much as you go that extra mile with your builds, it seems you have done the same when disaster strikes. I’m so glad you’ve sourced parts and if anyone can undo the damage, you can. Even my heart dropped when I saw the picture.
All the best
Mark

Crying Oooh nasty one Sticky

Maybe there's too much damage to repair the keel and then have another cutout area showing detail inside.

Cool Still its in good and capable hands for a major overhaul once you receive the parts.

Cool Straight into dry dock

Thank you Mark, Garth, Al and Budgie.

Thank you Del for the heads up, I have ordered the part from ebay.

Mark [Admin], I tried to send a message to you that I've bought the part from ebay following Dels lead, but your inbox is full. Thanks for your help all the same.

Good morning from 'The Dockyard'.

Just a short update after the disaster that unfolded earlier this week.

I made a hull valve that is located in the deck-head of the aft torpedo compartment. It was during the making of it, when I flipped the U-boat over to check it for fit, that i discovered the damage.

The photo attached shows the hull valve ready for painting. The small, brass pin is 0.5mm rod and is used to securely locate the hull valve to the deck-head.

The main body was made from 2.5mm diameter and 5mm diameter styrene rod, with a brass pin running through both to secure. The valve handwheel is an etched brass item. I added an M1 bolt head to the valve body for detail.

Well that concludes this weeks update and what a week modelling wise!Blink

I work at Dyson and will be part of the team building the Dyson Covent ventilators. Starting from Tuesday for 4 weeks initially. 24 hours a day, 6 days a week. I don't know what shift i'll be working as of yet, so consequently my posts might be sporadic during the next month.

Thanks again for all your support, much appreciated. Take care all and stay safe!

Regards,
Phil W.
