Hi all,

finished the build a few months ago, and everything was working fine. Powered him up this morning after not using for a month, and on start-up he lurched forward, but the head rotated 180 degrees, it didn't stop and move the other direction like it has done every time I powered him up before. Also noticed that head shake and the lightsaber function will not work. All other functions work just fine.

Any help would be appreciated. He has been working fine for months, now this issue popped up.

thanks,
Don

Sound like something has been dislodged in the wiring. Check the cables. Also check that the rim sensors are making contact with the dome stud, that detects the dome moving and stops it at a certain point.

Mark,

Checked all connections. Everything was seated properly. Checked the lug to make sure it was hitting the stop. Got that part fixed. Now, upon power up, he lurches forward, head rotates to R2's right, hits the stop, but does not rotate in the other direction and purple light flashes. If I move the head back manually yellow light comes on and he beeps to show readiness. Head shake function and lightsaber function still not working, but all other modes, sounds, projections are working fine.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

thanks,
Don

Sound like it is getting stuck at stage 2 of the startup, which is why he still flashes purple. Check both sensors again on the rim. Sounds as if the sensor is not picking up. I had a similar problem with mine, I reseated the sensor and that solved it for me. It is a bit of trial and error, difficult to diagnose when not seeing him. It may need a new sensor, that would be the first port of call if it still doesn’t work. It is very unlikely it would be the head motor, but stranger things have happened, so who knows.

Keep me updated.

Mark,

thanks again for your responses. I did reseat the sensors, traced all the wires back to their destinations and reseated the wires on the circuit card in the dome. I now have him turning his head both ways on start up and the head centers when done. I can also use the head shake command in the app. So that's the head moving issue resolved.

However, I still cannot get the lightsaber function to work. I don't hear the motor on the end of the tube moving at all. the function won't work through the app or with the button on the front.

Any ideas on this one?

I really appreciate your help, and I am glad I didn't have to replace the head motor or the sensors.

thanks,
Don

Hi Don. Glad you’ve got the head movement sorted. With the lightsaber issue, check you have put the limit switches the correct way round first, looking at the official build log here, issue 37 should help. It might also be the cable has been pulled out of the motor when using the cable ties. If the motor it still doesn’t work contact C/S for a replacement one, issue 37.

Good luck
Mark

Mark,

I checked the limit switches, disconnected and re-seated the connections. I re-did the wire ties to make sure they weren't pulling in either direction. Did not fix the problem. I have contacted CS for a replacement.

thanks again for all your assistance,
Don
