Please allow me to try to describe a few problems:
1. The head has never moved during startup. Red light good, jump forward good, and momentarily, the go ahead chirp is heard. Most other functions work properly, including the button pushes. The head does move properly using the app, but no head shake. Battery tests good, blue light on R2, app shows full battery charge.

I traced this problem to my carefully following the magazine assembly issue 97, page 13, where pictures 10B, 11A, 11B, 12, and 13A, all show the R.F-M plug inserted backwards. I read about this in the troubleshooting guide, but after correcting the plug, and checking all other connections, there was no change in startup. When booted up while plugged in, the head violently spun/crashed right, then left. Read about this in the troubleshooting guide as well, then ordered a new head motor and MCU.

I replaced the head motor and MCU, checking and rechecking all connections as I went. Still no head motion on startup, but when booted up while plugged in, the head now moves at proper speed, under control; no high speed crashes. The app still works properly. Head shake is sporadic but works sometimes. Certainly an improvement if not for everything else.

2. The blue lights on both legs are on, and R2 correctly turns right, left, forward and back, but it will not go straight, only a 2 or 3 foot diameter circle. Patrol sensors are working well, no crashing into things. This issue has not changed since the first startup.

3. Short and long LCDs periodically flash off and on, sometimes come on and stay on without the app. App controls them, but button pushes for patrol mode, arms, and lightsaber will occasionally turn the lcds on or off as well.

4. Finally, now whenever R2 moves forward, the head quickly turns to face backwards. If I use the app to turn the head all the way to the right, then return it to facing forward, when R2 goes forward, the head turns all the way to the right. If I use the app to turn the head all the way to the left, then return it to facing forward, when R2 goes forward, the head turns all the way to the left. Head shake will not work when this happens.

I've broken the droid down again and repeatedly checked all connections, confirming that everything is correct, but these things seem to be getting worse. Certainly not something I can live with after all this time and money. Please help, thank you!

The only solution I can give is to replace the cable on the head motor if you haven’t done so already. Make sure the pins on the cables are seated correctly. If you are still having issues replace the right leg motor, as this has the encoder that starts R2 at the initial start-up. It may have been damaged when the cables were inverted originally.

Thank you for your quick reply! I changed the head motor cable, which came with the new head motor. No change. I will order a new right leg motor and post again when that is replaced. Although, would it be possible to simply switch the left and right leg motors, since they appear to be identical? Thanks again.

No, they may look the same, but that one has an encoder in place as well.

I received the right leg motor today. I left the foot cover off so it would be easy to change out. 5 minutes later, everything was working perfectly! BigGrin Can't believe that one little thing corrected all the problems. Thanks for your help.

Glad you’ve got it all sorted.
