So, having replaced my MCU, I've just completed totally rewiring R2 and am ready to power him up for the first time. Not wanting to fry my MCU again, I would like to clarify the instructions before I take the leap ...
On page 13 of issue 100, it says "Plug the mains adapter into "R2-D2. Plug the other end into the mains and turn it on. Leave it for a couple of seconds, then turn it off and unplug both ends."
What does "it" refer to? The mains adapter or R2? I.e. should I turn on power to the adapter or turn on R2 itself? (The confusion comes from America not having switches on individual outlets, so I'm not sure what is being referenced.)

Don’t switch R2 on. You plug the mains adapter into R2 with it plugged into the mains. Wait for a few seconds and switch it off at the mains and unplug the mains adapter from R2. This is a protection procedure to activate the battery, and without doing this, R2-D2 won’t turn on. Then you switch on the power button under R2 and press the bottom button on his panel, On/off switch, he should then start his startup procedure. From then on all you need to do is switch him on to start him. The mains adapter is then used to charge him up. Note: should the batteries discharge fully if not used for a while and won’t charge up by the mains adapter, recharge the batteries individually again using the supplied usb charger, replace the batteries in the battery box and follow the first procedure again. Hope that helps. Mark

Thank you. That's what I thought, but I didn't want to screw up ... again.

Well, that was a big can of nothing.
Initialized the batteries, unplugged, turned on, nothing for a few seconds then the head started to turn ...
But when it hit the far right stop the motor kept going so I shut it off. Since then absolutely nothing happens when I flip the power switch.
I'm seriously thinking of flinging this POS right out the office window to the sidewalk 2 stories below, where it will smash into a thousand pieces.

Don't ask me what I did, but I flipped R2 on his side to remove the screw covers so I could take off the body and quadruple check the connections. As I did so, he head started to spin, so I quickly plunked him on the floor and let him do his thing.
Other than the dome issue slamming on one side and continuing to turn at the other (which I will diagnose and fix) all of the other functions worked. Now to load up the app and see how that goes.
Wish me luck.

And again, I don't know what happened / what I did, but the dome has suddenly started stopping correctly (if that makes sense) and R2 is now fully functional ... finally.
Now to take away his factory fresh paint job.
