My immediate reaction was to think that HMS Dragon is visually unattractive(ugly!). I reckon my grandson will be able to build a pretty accurate model from his lego bricks!
I am reminded of a Ford Transit white van compared with an Aston Martin DB5, for example!
Having said that, transit vans do a very good job simply because of their design and I'm sure that Dragon will fulfil its air defence role because it has been designed just for that. I assume that the wierd angular suoerstructure is all to do with stealth technology and avoiding radar detection??

Gone are the days of ships packed with guns, Its a ship for current times - High intensity war fighting, anti-piracy, anti-smuggling, disaster relief and surveillance, the type 45 might not look it but it packs a mighty punch in being able to defend against multiple and simultaneous attack!

Like Mr.T's other post yesterday about the Victory broadside...I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of what the type 45 can deal out!! Unattractive she may be to some, but her design makes her pretty damn near invisible at sea...I reckon we will be hearing more of this new type of warship in the years to come...
Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

Stealth technology certainly doesn't help these ships to look pretty but they do have some pleasing lines to the hull, definitely built for speed. What I would like to know is why they decided to get the "Pimp my Ride" team involved & paint the enormous dragon on her ,none of the other 45's have a representation of their names on the hull......maybe they need sponsorship to run the navy these days & it's a company logo Now there's a thought for the government....commercially sponsored armed forces...they wouldn't need to scrap unused ships, planes etc Rob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

I suspect that the Dragon logo is not a permanent addition, the ship has just been lauched and has yet to undego sea trials, where I think the logo will then disapear; what's next, a Nike tick on Hms Nike

Whether or not they are ugly or simply functional they certainly seem to lack character. I took this of Dauntless last year. All 6 are assembly line built and look the same. Shame in many ways but understandable. John

Personally I think it looks awesome, not ugly. Aggressive and purposeful.
