Stage 131 Contents: Sail S4, Figure and Decorations
Take decoration C62 supplied with stage 124 and the three decorations C62 provided with this stage. Paint them in the same way as the matching piece in stage 129. Retrieve two pieces of 2x5mm wooden strip. Shape each strip to match the one shown in step 2 of the instructions, then drill three 1.5mm holes evenly spaced. Paint both with wood stain. Now glue each rail between two decorations C62, then pain six pins from stage 124 to match all the others. When dry, glue a pin into each of the holes in the rails. Glue the two pin rails into the holes aft of the foremast and main mast, both facing towards the stern.
Using black thread attach the backstay from the main topgallant crosstrees, the backstay needs to be 220mm in length. Now rig the line from the mizzen stay up to the backstay you just fitted, then back down to the pin rail at the base of the mainmast. Step 6 of the instructions shows how the completed backstay should look.
Now fit the backstay from the mainstay, to the fore topmast top and down to the pin rail. Step 7 of the instructions shows how the completed backstay should look. Once complete, rig the backstay from the main topmast stay, to the fore crosstrees, tying it off to the pin rail at the base of the foremast. Step 8 of the instructions shows how the completed backstay should look.
Retrieve sail S2 supplied with stage 129 and the yard Y2 from stage 114, stain the yard with wood stain. Now prepare the sail and yard in the same way as the spritsail, following the guide in step 10 of the instructions. Fix two eyebolts at the end of the bowsprit, one on either side. Suspend the sprit topsail yard from the bowsprit topmast by wrapping the sling around it, then tying it off to the yard. Make sure you have the sail in the correct orientation with the rear facing towards the stern.
To rig the spritsail top yard lifts, tie a line of natural thread to each of the eyebolts on either side of the bowsprit topmast cap. Pass the line through the 5mm blocks on top of the yard, then the blocks under the crosstrees, down through the spritsail top and the eyebolts fitted at the end of the bowsprit. Then aft and tie off to the inner two pins of the second pin rail.
Now attach two 4mm blocks to the forestay and two 5mm blocks to the bowsprit, in the positions shown in step 14 of the instructions. Rig the sprit topsail braces in the same way as the spritsail braces. From the forestay to the braces, to the 4mm blocks on the brace, to the 5mm blocks on the bowsprit, then aft and tie off to the first pin on the side pin rail.
Rig the two sprit topsail clewlines. From the blocks on the yard down and through the blocks in the clews, then up and through the yard blocks, down through the top, through the eyebolt, then aft and tie off to the second pins on the side pin rails.
Tie the sheets to the clews of the topsail, passing the line aft and through the remaining blocks on the spritsail yard, finally tying them off to the fourth pins on the side pin rails
Store any unused parts in a bag labelled with this stage number. This build stage is now complete. Gandale attached the following image(s):

Top notch 'Period Ship' modelling as always from you Alan and evolving into an impressive looking model - well done!
I like the tone of the hull planking and the ornamental painting, very nice work and very colourful.

Stage 132 Contents: Sail S5, Eyebolts and Decorations Take the two decorations C167, prepare and paint them the same way as those in stage 120. Glue the two decorations to the bulkhead, between the others. Remove any burrs or flash from the two parts of decoration C163 and C164. Glue the arms to the figures and apply a coat of metal primer. Paint these decorations following the painting guide contained within the instructions. Glue these decorations into position on the transom.
Retrieve yard Y3 from stage 114 and sail S3 from stage 130. Paint the yard with wood stain and when dry, bend (attach) the sail to the yard in the same way as the others. Separate six ribs from the fret received in stage 130. Sand them smooth and paint with wood stain. Now tie a length of black thread 6mm from the centre of the yard and seal the knot with a drop of glue. Pass the two ends of the line through the outer holes of one of the ribs, ensuring you have the rib the correct way round. Make a knot at the end of a length of black thread and fee the other end through the middle hole in the rib, cut off the excess. Thread a truck from stage 130 onto each of the three lines. Apply a second rib to the three threads and add another three trucks. Continue in the same way, alternating the ribs and the trucks until you have used 6 ribs and 15 trucks. Tie a knot in the middle line and secure with glue, then cut away the excess. Tie the two outer threads of the parrel together.
Dress the yard with blocks and lines as outlined in step 16 of the instructions. Place the foreyard up against the foremast, above the main stay. Pass the parrel around the mast then tie to the yard, securing the knot with a drop of glue. Take the two 350mm lines from the top of the yard up and through the 5mm blocks hanging from the foretop. Lift the yard up to the top, pulling the lines through the blocks. Tie the two lines to a 5mm block, then pass a line of black thread through the block and tie both ends off to the decoration on the deck.
Now rig the lifts. Tie the line to the block on the foretop, pass along and through the block on top of the yard, then back through the first block and down, tying it off to the pin on the side rail. Repeat on the other side. Tie two 4mm blocks to the mainstay. Rig the braces from the mainstay, to the blocks hanging from the yards, then aft and through the blocks on the say and finally tied off to the pins on the side rails.
Rig the clewlines from the yard to the clews, then back up and finally down, tying off to the pins next to where the lifts were tied off. Now tie a line of black thread to the port clew of the foresail. Pass the line forward and through the hole in the bottom of the stem. Lead the line aft and tie off to the starboard clew.
Fit an eyebolt to either side of the hull, below those fitted in stage 130. Tie a line to each eyebolt, pass them forward through the sheet blocks in the clews, then aft through the rail, tying it off to the cleat on either side.
Store any unused parts in a bag labelled with this stage number. This build stage is now complete. Gandale attached the following image(s):

Just incredible. Such attention to detail. I know I keep repeating myself but I'd love to be able to wander around that model...

Alan, this is just stunning.
My thoughts until recently were that all the painted figures on the Wasa were garish. But, seeing them in conjunction with the insanely complex early rigging... I’m really liking how complex it makes the build visually. Everywhere the eye goes, there is something to study.

I know I’ve said it before, but it is just a truly amazing build. Mark
