Hi all.

I managed to pop by the dockyard today and see how the old girl is getting on.

I have taken a few photos of some of the work being done. I was not able to get on board (i left my wallet in the car so couldnt buy a ticket) but i could see that alot of work was going on on deck as well as other areas.

it was a beautiful day so managed to get a few photos and can post more.

Enjoy

They are definitely ripping into her aren't they. Can't remember seeing a door there when we visited her,its almost as though it had been covered over, also can anyone shed any light on the fact that the mid section of timbers runs vertically rather than horizontally?

What you are looking at in that picture are the ribs with the planking removed.

We build models with just a few bulkheads to stick the planks to.

This link shows the original plans for a typical hull

National Maritime Museum Plans

The construction is clearly shown

I am interested to see if they take the opportunity to replace the steel Victorian masts with authentic wooden ones and the mahogany decks from the royal yacht with proper oak.

Thanks for that Mike, having had a closer look at the pic I can see it now,my only excuse for not seeing it for what it is this morning was a severe lack of sleep....20 mins all night...& that is being generous!!!
Apparently there was a rave on last night loud music, police sirens ...the lot...thought we had moved to the country for a quiet lifeLOL
