Pack 6

Stage 26: Starboard engine frames.

Stage 26 Contains:
Frame R1, Frame R2, Frame R3, Frame R4, frame R5, Frame R6 and frame R7.

In this Stage, we continue adding the engine frames, this time on the starboard side (left if looking with the fuselage upside down). Again the frames are numbered on top, from R1 through to R7.

If, like me, you have an issue with flashing on the locating pins (see photos 3 & 8) - enough that they will not seat properly - just remove it with a small file.

Fit the frames in order from R1, with the frame number to the outside edge.

This completes Stage 26.

Stage 27: Upper airbrake panel

Stage 27 Contains:
Upper airbrake panel, Axle, Axle plate, 3x BM screws.

This is one of those very short stages, consisting of only 3 parts and some screws.

Firstly, locate the upper airbrake panel. It sits in the two slots between the engine cowlings at the rear of the plane. When in place, turn the model over to access the underneath, where the axle sits.

Holding underneath the fuselage, to get a better angle, push the axle through the cogs affixed to the airbrake panel. Fit the axle plate over the axle, so that it locates the two screw holes, and secure with the two BM screws.

This completes Stage 27.

Stage 28: The Truss.

Stage 28 Contains:
2x Hydraulic actuator rods, 2x Actuator rod hinges, 2x Barrel hinges, 2x hydraulic actuator barrels, 3x KM screws, £x Grey FM screws, 3x Black FM screws, 3x FP screws.

It is worth noting that these parts are very small, so you might find magnifying lenses come in VERY handy with this Stage! I would also leave the parts in the packaging tray until needed.

Firstly, we need to attach the two hydraulic actuator barrel hinges to the fuselage frame. They have a notch on the rear to stop them rotating when you screw them in place, which is done using two of the black FM screws.

To build up the actuators, you will need to be aware that the screws need to face away from each other. This is so that they don't interfere with the parachute housing fitted later.

Assemble the actuators by pushing the actuator rod into the barrel. To attach the hinge, start the screw in the hole, push the eyelet of the actuator rod into place, and screw home. Assemble the second actuator the same way, remembering to fit the screw from the opposite direction.

At the bottom of the hinge is a small locating pin. Taking one of the actuators with the screw on the outside, sit this pin into the indent in the airbrake upper panel, and screw in place using the grey FM screws.

To attach the actuator barrels in place, pre-screw a KM screw through the hinge to cut the threads, then back it out till the barrel sits in the hinge. Tighten the crew, and repeat for the opposite side.

This completes Stage 28. Store any unused or leftover parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.

Stage 29: Rear fuselage box.

Stage 29 Contains:
Rear fuselage box, 3x BM screws.

After all the fiddly stuff of Stage 28, we get another short and simple Stage!

The rear fuselage box sits sits behind the truss installed in Pack 5. The problem i found was that it sits just too tight against the rearmost frame, possibly causing damage when installing. The solution i used was to lightly file the front edge recesses. This enabled the rear fuselage box to slip underneath the protrusions on the truss, and seat down flat. With the two screw holes now visible, it is held in place with the two VM screws.

This completes Stage 29. Store any unused parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.

Stage 30: Brake parachute housing.

Stage 30 Contains:
Panel, Brake parachute housing, Brake parachute door, 3x BM screws.

Insert the brake parachute door into the end of the parachute housing. The door feels a little loose to me but i refrained from gluing it in case it is meant to be that way for a later stage.

On the bottom of the parachute housing are two small ridges. These locate over the post between the actuators. Fit the panel over the end of the parachute housing, with the two protrusions uppermost. Screw in place with a BM screw

This completes Stage 30 and Stage 6. Store any unused parts in a stage-labelled bag for future use.
