hi tom, have you checked mr.t's. official build? Fitting the entry port canopies - The canopy of the real victory is roofed with lead, a detail point that can be added with matt grey paint, or with a small sheet of lead foil obtained from a specialist model shop or salvaged from the foil cap of some wine bottles, (I used 0.025mm thick foil). Hold the side supports and roof in place on the hull, you may need to file the tops of the support to match the angle of the roof. Whether you are building the natural or painted version, paint the parts black and highlight the lines and detail with gold paint. Attach the supports to the hull using superglue, they need to be 12mm apart, so align the inner edges with the outside of the strips of wood that line the entry ports, then glue the canopy on top. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Tom Your pictures would indicate to me a manufacturing problem with the canopies. Are they both the same? I wouldn't have thought that there would be quite so much of a gap to adjust, even allowing for the fact that each build will be slightly different, but one would have to have a very strangely shaped hull to make those fit. It looks to me like a job for Customer Services. Happy building daffy09

Everyones hull will differ, the fit of my canopies only had a small adjustment to make (material removed fron the tops of the supports), though the fit gap of your's does seem excessive.
To close the roof gap, you'll need to remove material at a corresponding sloping angle (wedge shaped) from the top surface of the supports, which in turn will close the roof gap, which is what the mag info relates to where it says - "Hold the side supports and roof in place on the hull, you may need to file the tops of the support to match the angle of the roof." - Obviously the roof needs to be removed from the supports to to be able to carry out this adjustment.
