Thanks Mark/Kev for the comments and those that took the time to look in.



So after what I class as a successful scratch build, I`m now on the search for other figures I can transform later on for the dio.


In the mean time I`ve tackled the body masking for the first colour (white). I had to make a template to get the guide lines in the correct place as some of the decal is see through to show the second colour (blue) as a thin stripe in it.


I`ve attached a pic of the results so far.

Whilst letting the first colour harden, I`ve made some progress with the Pro Fuel vehicle.

I`ve added the rear extensions to the vehicles frame. A few bits added internally that I will show later as I had to put other parts temporarily in place so that the extensions set straight to the rest of the frame. (Rear brace, Rear axle and Engine)

Hi Roy,

It`s certainly been fun at this end already.

The smoke unit, although treated as per the instructions worked for about 10 - 15 seconds on the first test bed trial and then went POP/FLASH that`s now on its way back to the seller for a refund and a search underway for a replacement.

The axle supplied with the motor doesn`t seem to want to take a thread cut by my set of dies, so have today ordered a brass rod that should cut more easily.

All these things are sent to try us, but I`ll keep soldiering on. I don`t give up that easily.

As soon as I get the test bed up and running I`ll put up a video link.

Wait no longer.


Having returned the faulty "Faller" smoke unit, I`ve ordered two "Seuthe" #99 smoke generators that are used for model train smoke stack installation. One that will be fitted under each rear wheel. I consulted with a very helpful guy at Peters Spares in Teeside. https://www.petersspares.com/

I discussed my plans and he gave advise as to how close I need to get each unit to the tyres etc. etc.

So they are on their way as is the replacement rear axle, so hopefully next week some time I should (fingers crossed) have the test bed up and running with video to follow.


Now for the latest update:

As I said there were bits added but not glued when I extended the rear frame of the Pro Fuel car, so

Pic 1: Shows the details added to the right rear frame.

Pic 2: Shows the detail added to the left rear frame.

Pic 3: Shows the final drive (back axle) in place. This is not glued until the engine is fixed in place so the drive shaft from the engine can be fixed straight to the axle.

Pic 4: The front wheels now made up and attached (no body in place)

Pic 5: As above (primed body in place)


So that`s all for now.

Got a little more done on the body of the Pro Fuel vehicle yesterday as shown in the pics below:

Pic 1: Front wing attached.

Pic 2: The rear body extensions attached.

Pic 3: The full body. (Small screen to fitted after final painting.

The body is now having a second base coat.

Just hoping now that the expected deliveries arrive early next week.

The earlier post was from Yesterday, interrupted by the need for Grandad`s Taxi to get Granddaughter to and from her Martial Arts lesson. Warning she hits damn hard. I wouldn`t take her on and she`s only 14.

So that said I`ve had some more time today and the results follow. One not so good.

More work done on the Pro Fuel car:

Pic 1: Rear wing and chutes fitted. You can just see one of the rear discs, but when the big rear wheels/tyres are on that`s unlikely.

Pic 2: The full power train is now in situ. (Almost - see pic 4)

Pic 3: The full vehicle as it looks now (minus body shell)

Pic 4: Still have a rear tank to fit and the two pipes that connect to the engine. Here`s the problem, only got 1 and 3/4 of the pipes.(Working on it)

Pic 5: The big beasts of rear wheels and tyres.


Now a question.

This kit comes with decals for the tyre lettering. So has anyone had success in applying decals to the raised lettering on tyres or do you have to remove the raised letters and then apply the decals? Asking as I`ve never had tyre decals before and nothing mentioned in the instructions.

Think I may stick to the paint and tidy up scalpel job. May not be perfect but less hassle if it goes badly wrong and I`ve used that method before.

Looking really good so far. I think it's going to be an impressive model when it's all done.

Regarding tyre lettering - I use a fine tipped white marker pen.
'uni-POSCA'.
I got it from Amazon. Absolutely brilliant, dense white and a good fine tip.
Just colour in the raised lettering.

Hi All,

Well I`m back to one and a half hands in working order (just). Right index finger now back to normal size even though still a bit tender. I`ll put up with that as I`m bored to death with daytime TV.

In a previous post (6th Sept) I showed a part that was not fully moulded. I had made the basics of the repair before my bite episode, but never got round to fitting it.

So in today`s update:

Pic 1 is the part as it came out of the box.

Pic 2 shows the first stage of the replacement. (Made from scrap sprue)

I`ve also made a start on the basics of the plastic surgery of the recently acquired figures.

So I put on the scrubs.

Got out the saw, knife, file and plastic putty.

And have achieved the following.

THE DRIVER:

The most troublesome one as he was designed for something like a "Rally Car". Sat more upright, hence hips and knees much more angled, plus his legs were to far apart to fit in the vehicle so re-angled one of his legs to bring them closer together.

Pic 4 shows how he looks close up. Still some fine work to do before the paint work starts.

Pic 5 A pic from above with the driver in his seat. Had to carefully remove the steering wheel/handles and thankfully had the foresight to not fit the roll cage. (Just placed for now).

Next is the (what I will call) "Tag" man. He will be holding and showing the driver the parachute locking tags that have been removed. Similar to the "Remove before flight tags" on planes. As he was meant to be a civilian driver figure his feet were totally at the wrong angle. So out came the saw and I reset his feet so he could stand. Also had to adjust the neck to body bit so he is looking at the driver.

Next was one of the easier alterations. The pit girl. She will be near the burn out funny car giving the thumbs up to go for it.

Pic 9 Shows the Pit Girl and the red line indicates the knee joint that was adjusted so she stands on her right foot with the left toe on the floor.


From here things got easier. Next is the "Tyre Man". He`s the one who rubs down the tyres after a burnout to get any bits off the tyre surfaces.

Pic 10 Tyre man. Only altered the angle his arms were meant to be set at so he could do his job.

Pic 11 Tyre man in place. Dirty rag to be put in his hands.


Finally "The Promo Lady". No alterations needed here. She doesn`t stand well (must be the high heels) but will when stuck to the dio. By the way she is wearing a swimming costume.

To speed up the surgery of the figures I cut all at once, filled all where needed and left to set.


That`s all for this update, lots to be getting on with now, when time permits. Got car service tomorrow, canal work Wednesday. So just the evenings.
