Only me again guys....... Just wanted a few opinions thats all. I have opted for the painted finish on my HMS Victory, but i wondered if i could ever so slightly mix and match. You see i already have a smaller wooden built HMS Victory ( about 24" in length and 17" high ) which i bought ready assembled from Admiralty ship models when i retired in 2008. This ship is finished in the painted livery, but the hull below the wales/waterline is varnished. So you see what i mean by mix and match. The only reason i considered this is to show off the planking instead of covering it with copper paint. What do you think guys? would it look too unrealistic or should i stick to plan. I know the model is individual and all that but i value any constructive criticisms/opinions.

Hi Dave, After finishing the hull I decided the same as you, shame to cover it up. Not only am I leaving the hull varnished, but also some of the deck fittings that should be black, in other words, anything that looks better stained will not be painted! Check out my build diary, I think to look like the 'Vic' you need a bit of black & yellow but it's nice for people to see that it IS made of wood. PS. I'm also building a cross-section, basicly to practice on, that is 'coppered' but thought to myself that it would look over the top on the main build (drawing the eye to that rather than the other detail), but each to their own, we all want something unique! Whatever you decide I'm sure you will be happy with it. Jeff
