Hi Phil

Thanks for looking in.Cool Cool

I had to find a vibrant red, as the main side decals have a base colour that is red/brown. So if the red had been dull it would have merged with the decal. All will be revealed more when I add the decals.

I used a "Halfords" rattle can called Hyundai Electric Red if anyone needs a bright red for a model.

Hi All,BigGrin

Whilst waiting for the body paint to dry on the Pro-fuel dragster and having done my bit cleaning up the local canal, I`ve started on the second phase of surgery on the driver.

Having straightened out the drivers body it means that his arms are totally wrong.

As its the Pro-fuel dragster that is getting ready on the start line, the driver needs one hand on the steering and one raised in acknowledgement of his crew. So I needed to straighten one arm almost totally and then I only need to adjust the position/angle of the other arm.

In the pic below I have cut the left arm almost right through at the elbow, then shaped a piece of scrap sprue to a "V" shape and glued it into the opened elbow joint. When fully set will cut off the excess (red line) and fill and shape ready for fixing to the body and painting.

Hope to be setting up the two smoke generator test tomorrow.Blink Blink

Looks great Derek, that's a nice shade of red, really sets off the whole model and seems to have laid down nicely with a great finish considering it's from a spray can. Like your method of filling the gap in the drivers' partially severed arm as well - bet that hurt! Blink Huh

Well done. Cool ThumpUp

Love the red you have used on the body Derek.

That looks like a very long model as well, its going to look very nice when its all together.

Thanks to all who have looked in and to Kev and Tony for your comments.

Cool Cool Cool

I`ve come to a small impasse due to delivery issues. I wanted to get the two smoke generators running at the same time, but the power distribution board has not arrived as yet and I won`t play around with bits of wire all over the place even when using low voltage as some of the components don`t come cheap and this dio is mounting up on the cost front.

I don`t mind the overall cost, but it could get silly if I start blowing power supply units, power convertors, smoke generators etc etc. Or worse still if something goes wrong and I damage one of the kits.

So will give the next update as soon as the required parts arrive. When Covid restrictions and postal services running somewhere near normal allow. Crying Crying

Hi Mark BigGrin

Thanks for looking in.Cool

I am very happy with the paint job and the colour. As for the size, this one is 1:25 scale and measures in at 40 cms in length. so if my calculations are correct the real thing comes in at 10 metres.Blink

Hi All, BigGrin

UPDATE

Good news is that the Postman arrived with my bits and pieces for this and paints for another build in the planning.

As postie was nice and early I`ve put together the circuitry for this build in temporary form till I start building the dio base.

In the picture below I have just placed the switches where they will be in the final build.

Switch 1 on and switch 2 off gives the smoke generators time to start up.

then

When the smoke generators kick in.

Switch 1 on and switch 2 on runs the motor for the wheels with the smoke working.

I am toying with the idea of putting a variable timer in place of switch 2. This should then in effect make it work off the one switch that will power the smoke generators with the timer starting the motor after a pre determined time delay, ie the time it takes the smoke generators to start working.
If this bit happens will be determined by cost. Crying

That`s it for this update, except that I`d like to extend my thanks to Mark Warren for his tips and assistance with this circuitry both on and off the forum. BigGrin Cool BigGrin

Hi Again, Blink

In preparation for the two smoking wheels test I`ve made a test jig (adapted from the initial one). This also gives me a better idea of how to get the workings of the dio base in the best shape.

The smoke generators need to be set beneath the wheels in the base, but also need to be accessible to replenish the smoke oil.

The following will obviously need adapting for the final base of the dio.Blink

Pic 1: shows one smoke generator placed into a base.

Pic 2: shows both smoke generators in the base, but slid out for putting in the smoke oil.

Pic 3: Shows the base slid back into place to get the smoke under the wheels.

I am now getting more confident that this is now a viable working dio. (Phew)

Test video coming soon. Grandchildren`s needs permitting over the weekend.LOL

Hi All, BigGrin

Well its now a proven build with respect to the "Smokin Wheels"

A pic below shows the prototype wired up roughly for now.Blink

The bit that has been awaited by those following is available in the video link below:

I have upped the voltage supply to the smoke generators from 8v to 12v which generates more smoke. Confused May have to turn it down a bit, or the smoke alarms will be going off. LOL Flapper LOL

https://youtu.be/8mTxgcNlmeE

Now I can start designing the base of the dio.ThumpUp ThumpUp
