thanks Alan you cleared up a lot of confusion for me just one last question what do you mean when tease the bend in to place so I can try that as well thank you Ronald

It means ease the bend into place, don't force it by applying too much force...

Alan

Hi Alan here are a few photos of the bent stern planks and the top planks in place as far as the stern planks I tried to bend a them like the ones in the instructions they are not coming out good with the crimpers that is even when I tried to be gentle the turns are still showing splinters, so would like your permission to try bend theme using my iron as I did in the past soaking them as well, try two new ones, I almost forgot to mention since the stern planks are temporary and not glued I did not trim the ends toward the bow as you can see in the pictures Ronald ronald305 attached the following image(s):

HI Alan I had these two photos taken of the right and left side of the stern with the bent planks in place as you can see the left side has a bad turn to it I tried to fix it by soaking it and using my iron but the stress marks and splitting is from using the crimpers first, that will have to be replaced the right side is not bad that I can see. I did not do any twisting to either one they just have the bend in them PS this post is a part of the last post I sent this afternoon, your thoughts, advise & next instructions Ronald ronald305 attached the following image(s):

Its getting there Ronald but you need to bend the plank more to get round the curve. Use the iron first then the crimper, not the crimper first. It is tricky and you just have to keep trying. Once you have the plank looking like step 4 of the instructions then we can move forward a little more. There is nothing more I can tell you on how to achieve this I'm afraid.
Regards
Alan

I am going to lock this thread. There is an incredible amount of rock solid info that Alan has given. At this point, it is incumbent on the builder to think it through, and refer to the pertinent pictures and descriptions.
Ronald, you’ll be getting another pack with the strip wood, so you have one or two extras to cautiously trial with. I think you’ll find it super easy! Try my steam bending, for comparison.
Thanks to you both for the dialog that was really informative!
