Well I have been pondering about what to do for my next project.
As you know, I have always done dioramas with lighting and sound effect and they have got a little more ambitious every year. At the beginning of this year, I did the Starship Enterprise with custom built display, lighting, and sound effects. This was going to be a project that was to take around a year to build. But, with the current situation and lockdown it took around 4 months, but hey, certainly kept me occupied as well as my sanity intact.
So, to the project. I wanted something that was tv, film inspired as the others are, but also challenging. So, I took the plunge and bought the Master models Nautilus which is a resin kit. The kit is from the Disney's 1954 classic, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The size of the sub is a little over 31 inches in length, so a decent size for me to add lots of extras.
As you can see below a lot of work with this one. It will include detailed Salon interior with carpets, pictures, furniture, lighting and sound effects, and a working propeller. I have opted for the upgrade parts including a brass propeller, upgraded skiff and full movie effects board from Voodoo. I will also be adding projected lighting water effects from the base lighting up the hull as if it were under water, well that’s the plan. The detail on the parts are superb but will need a lot of cleaning up.
Anyway, here are some pictures

Thanks Carl I’ll be using modern masters metal effect iron paint. Mixed with white vinegar and applied over a metallic steel finish, left for several hours gives you a rusty finish, and it’s real rust. Still getting my head around the electronics. Mark
