Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. Just a very short update this week. I have started to make the couplers that connect the main motors to the propeller shafts. Didn't make as much progress as i would of liked this week due to the fiddly nature of this work. In the attached photo you can see the white blocks marked with arrows and another set with a brass rod between them. It was fitting these blocks that proved tricky, especially the ones with the brass rod lying between them. Many attempts required as the blocks kept falling down into the bilge and lots of turning the u-boat upside down to retrieve them! . Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

I then started to make up the cylinder shapes to represent the couplers, in a similar way i made the basic shapes of the main motors. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

Another great update. I`m calm again now I`ve had a fix of U230 I do have a question though. As an Ex scuba diver (trained to 46 metres), who has been disorientated under water, do submariners have the same issues. I could see around me when diving, but sometimes the mind can play tricks. That`s when we relied on our dive gauges. So I was wondering if submariners had the same problem or more so, as they can only see the inside of the sub? Regards delboy271155 (Derek) Thank you very much Del!!! Our minds were always playing tricks, especially on others! On a serious note we didn't have those issues you mentioned. There were depth gauges dotted all over the submarine, so we always knew how deep we were, but we never knew exactly where we were, only the Skipper and Navigation Officer knew that! Secret squirrel stuff and all that jazz. Sometimes you could get 'tunnel vision' as everything is up close all of the time, but your eyes soon adjusted once you landed, then your vision went again as the beers went down! Regards, Phil W. Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. Just a short update this week. I've now started on making the electrical switchboard. This piece of kit was where the amps, volts and watts of the main motors were monitored. It was also where the speed of the main motors and hence the propellers was controlled via orders from the Control Room. Attached is a photo of the electrical switchboard of U995 which i'm using a guide. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

First step was to make a box section as a basis for the whole structure.
